Here at Parents, we couldn’t be more ready for the sun to start shining, so much so that in our July issue, we have a whole spread devoted to outdoor toys. And since even that seems far away, we’re super excited to cover ride-on toys in an exclusive slideshow to appear online in May.
The latest one to catch our attention: Radio Flyer’s Cyclone. Using their arms, kids can spin 360 degrees in any direction they please. Perfect for ages 3-7, we love that the Cyclone encourages kids to be active with the added bonus of twirling fun. (Side note: We tried it here in the office and confirmed that lightweight adults can ride it too!)
Also: Longtime Radio Flyer fans can share their favorite memories through Little Red Stories, an online gallery where families can submit and browse tales of red wagons and other toys, photos, and videos of cherished Radio Flyer experiences. Those who spill have the chance to be selected as the monthly winner of a $500 gift card to RadioFlyer.com. Plus, all entries will be considered for the big $10,000 grand prize, including a custom Build-A-Trike and Build-A-Wagon, all to be awarded next month.
In the meantime, Radio Flyer is offering the Cyclone, a $60 value, to TWO lucky GoodyBlog readers. To enter, leave a comment below, up to one a day between today and the end of the day April 14. More Qs about our giveaway? Read the official rules. Be sure to check back on April 15 and scroll to the bottom of the post to see who won. We reach out to winners via Facebook message (it goes into your “other” message folder on Facebook), so if you win, look for us there as well. Goody luck!
With Easter on its way next weekend, it’s never too early to start brainstorming fun family activities. Try making this cute plastic easter egg bunny!
Congrats to our winners Teresa Honores and Megan Karcilar!

Did your kid get a ride-on toy for Christmas? They are top of mind over here because (spoiler alert) we’re building bikes for a page in our May issue of Parents. Also, I’ve talked to plenty of parents over the last few days who said that putting together their child’s new vehicle on Christmas Eve was a…um…challenge! You have to have some time and patience (and usually a love of Allen Wrenches) when building.
But I do love the ride-ons; Radio Flyer’s new Ziggle is one of our Best Toys of 2013. And I got some fun news this morning: Radio Flyer is searching for the next great ride-on toy idea. The contest is open to anyone who has a concept for a ride-on toy that hasn’t been seen before. You have between now and Monday, January 6th to enter your idea securely through the Edison Nation site. If Radio Flyer loves your idea, they may license it and make the toy (and you can change your name to Santa Claus). Goody luck!

On the heels of last year’s cool build-a-wagon program, Radio Flyer announced a build-a-trike program this month. You can make their classic red trike as simple or as tricked-out as you want, adding on extras such as a stereo for your MP3 player ($20), a canopy ($10), a personalized nameplate ($10), and more.
Chose from a red or pink base. The starting price of the trike ($75) includes a parent-steering handle, which you can use with your baby 9 months or older until he can peddle on his own. If you’re customizing for a baby or young toddler, I’d recommend adding the seatbelt ($10) and wrap-around tray ($15). Then the trike becomes your supercool stroller substitute! If you go crazy and choose all the add-ons, you can spend as much as $215.
The folks at Radio Flyer are a fun bunch; watch them on YouTube doing the Harlem Shake at their headquarters to get a sense of their spirit! We’re happy to announce that they’ll give one winner a voucher to customize a trike of their own; all you have to do to be eligible to win is to leave a comment below between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, March 20th. You can leave up to one comment a day and we’ll randomly pick the winner. Here’s where you can read all the official rules. Goody luck!

The awesome old-school version
There’s no toy that says “summer” to me like a Radio Flyer wagon. Did you know that the red wagon has been around for 95 years now? I picture these in every Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Fourth of July parade. And every beach town across America!
Personally, we use one at Neenup’s house (that’s my mom!). She’s near the beach but my kids just pull it around her yard during their endless imagination games. I love that we’ve got a customized one that says Grace and Joe on it!
The Grace and Joe mobile! They're hunting for ladybugs.
Want to customize your own red wagon? You can do it at RadioFlyer.com. You pick whether you want the metal-and-wood, old-school wagon (we’ve got one of those here in our office, it makes sneak appearances in photo shoots), or the plastic one I have for my kids (because we kind of abuse outdoor toys). Then you pick whether you want two little canopies, shade umbrellas, or one big canopy; you choose fabric patterns; you customize your wheels; and of course, you add a kid’s name, or a few! (You get up to 20 characters.)
To celebrate their near-centennial, the Radio Flyer folks are going to give away one personalized wagon for free. The worth of the wagon depends on what you add to it; it will be worth at minimum $105 and at most about $250. (Mine, which includes a storage compartment, would cost $209.) Just leave a comment here, up to once a day. Tell me what you’re most looking forward to doing with your kid this summer! (I’m looking forward to jumping in a pool with mine, we have a long wait here on the East coast for the pools to finally open up.)
This giveaway starts now and goes through Wednesday, May 23rd. For the official rules, please click here. As always, goody luck!
