Celebrity Parents Shine at the Academy Awards

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

This post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

Call the ‘sitter, it’s Hollywood’s biggest night out!

Some of our favorite celebrity parents attended the 2013 Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 24). From mom-of-three Reese Witherspoon, to power couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, to parents-to-be Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum, let’s look at the best – and worst – dressed of the evening.

Parents-to-be Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum rocked the red carpet on Hollywood’s biggest night. Jenna dressed her baby bump in a body-hugging black lace Rachel Roy gown with cap sleeves and a deep V-neck.

The mom-to-be accessorized with one-of-a-kind Irene Neuwirth earrings and Christian Louboutin’s Aida clutch in nude satin.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck – parents to daughters Violet, 7, and Seraphina, 4, and son Samuel, 1 on Wednesday – looked every bit the glam Hollywood couple.

Walking the red carpet in style, Jennifer looked stunning in a custom Gucci gown paired with Neil Lane jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch. And Ben didn’t look too shabby in his dapper tuxedo, accessorized with his shiny trophy!

Helen Hunt went eco-chic in an H&M couture midnight blue gown in silk satin. The actress – who is mom to 8-year-old daughter Makena – debuted H&M’s eco-friendly initiative with the environmental group Global Green.

Going equal parts glam and down-to-earth, Helen paired the strapless gown with $700,000 worth of jewels by Martin Katz which were sewn right into the dress.

10 Celebrities Who Used Surrogates to Conceive

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

This post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

CelebrityBabyScoop is taking a look at 10 celebrities who have used a surrogate mother to expand their families. From Elton John, to Nicole Kidman, to Giuliana Rancic, to Sarah Jessica Parker, hear how gestational carriers have helped change the lives of some high-profile families.

Elton John
Sir Elton John and David Furnish welcomed their second son Elijah on January 11, 2013. The doting daddies used the same surrogate mother for their 2-year-old son Zachary.

“She is a wonderful, kind and loving woman,” Elton said of their surrogate, who thinks of her as “part of our family.”

The couple used the same egg donor for both boys and have chosen not to find out either of their son’s paternity.

Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban welcomed daughter Sunday on July 8, 2008. But after a “roller-coaster ride with fertility,” the couple used a gestational carrier for their second child, now 2-year-old daughter Faith.

“Having given birth and then being there to see my child born in that way, I felt so much love for our surrogate, gestational carrier,” Nicole said.

The Academy Award-winner went on to discuss why she uses the term “gestational carrier” as opposed to “surrogate” – something she was criticized for in the days following the announcement of Faith’s birth.

“We were trying to be accurate,” she shared. “The term ‘gestational carrier’ is used if it’s your biological child and if it isn’t, then you use ‘surrogate.’ I mean, who knows what it is. But she’s the most wonderful woman to do this for us.”

Elizabeth Banks
What to Expect When You’re Expecting actress Elizabeth Banks and husband Max Handelman have welcomed both sons – Felix, nearly 2, and Magnus, 3 months – via surrogate mother.

“Like Felix, Magnus was born via gestational surrogate,” she shared. “This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime. I am also so very thankful to our family and friends for their support throughout this process, as well as the Center for Surrogate Parenting for helping make all this possible.”

“It was a womb issue for me. Embryos wouldn’t implant,” she said of her fertility issues. “It’s a big leap, inviting this person into your life to do this amazing, important thing for you. And it’s hard losing that kind of control. But our surrogate is so extraordinary, and she’s still in our lives. She’s like an auntie.”

Neil Patrick Harris
How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris and partner David Burtka are dads to 2-year-old twins Harper and Gideon. The Doogie Houser alum opened up about welcoming the twins via surrogate mother.

“We really, really wanted kids,” NPH said. “We really had thought it through financially, emotionally, relationship-wise. We didn’t just accidentally get pregnant and decide that now we need to make this work. These kids come into our world with nothing but love.”

The handsome couple talked the science behind the birth of the fraternal twins, revealing each father fertilized one egg and the twins were carried and born via one surrogate.

Burtka explained that the twins were conceived by “two eggs, two embryos, one of mine, one of his.”

The couple knew the surrogate, whom Burtka described as “more like the oven.” And they found an anonymous egg donor through a donation bank where they were able to research her personal and medical history.

The 10 Best-Dressed Celebrity Moms

Thursday, August 16th, 2012

This post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

We love seeing our favorite celebrity moms in their everyday funky fashions. Whether it’s Jessica Alba’s newest scarf, or Victoria Beckham’s sky-high stilettos, we can’t get enough of Tinseltown’s latest trends.

According to CelebrityBabyScoop’s recent Readers’ Choice Awards, these are the 10 best-dressed, high-profile mamas in Hollywood:

1. Victoria Beckham

Mom-of-four Victoria Beckham never ceases to amaze us with her signature Louboutins, sleek designs and overall flair for fashion. Does she ever wear yoga pants and jeans like most moms? Probably not, and that’s why we love Vicki’s mom style the most.

2. Jessica Alba

Often seen in scarves, fedoras, and carrying oversized bags, actress Jessica Alba is dressed to impress while out and about with her two daughters. While her daughters sometimes steal the show in their own fashion statements, Jessica keeps the trends current with layers, patterns, and bright splashes of color.

3. Jennifer Garner

Mom-of-three Jennifer Garner is our favorite celebrity mom year after year. And it’s her carefree, casual fashions that make us love her even more! Often spotted in jeans, tees, and cardigans, Jen usually keeps it low-key in little to no makeup and sneakers. While some criticize the actress for her casual attire, most of us are happy to see a Hollywood star dress like us everyday moms!

4. Gwen Stefani

From street chic to Hollywood glam, Gwen Stefani knows how to rock the trends! A successful fashion designer in her own right, Gwen often talks about the importance of fashion and maintaining her image in Hollywood. And not to mention her sons’ funky duds! We always love seeing what Gwen and her boys are wearing.

5. Angelina Jolie

It’s rare to see Angelina Jolie in casual clothes and colors. The mom-of-six is often sporting black skirts and dresses, paired with heels and shades. Although she has such a busy household, Angie always looks polished and stylish, giving her the No. 5 spot on our best dressed list.

And rounding out the top 10 best dressed celebrity moms are Nicole Richie, Selma Blair, Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, and Pink.

A Look at 10 Hollywood Adoptions

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

This post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

Thanks to A-list couples like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Hollywood has put adoption in the spotlight.

From Malawi, to Korea, to the United States, CelebrityBabyScoop takes a look at some international and domestic adoptions from our favorite celebrity families. And hear about the joys from some of the most high-profile adoptive parents.

Jillian Michaels:
The Biggest Loser star Jillian Michaels and her partner Heidi Rhoades became parents to two children in May: A 2-year-old daughter Lukensia and a newborn son Phoenix.

“About three and a half years ago I began dating my partner Heidi,” Jillian shared on her road toward motherhood. “We had a very easy going, comfortable and no-pressure relationship. And a year or so into our relationship, I decided I want to adopt.”

The celebrity trainer went on to say the adoption process was not easy, and after a year and a half of waiting for a referral from Africa, she switched gears.

“I switched all my paperwork over to Haiti and I get a phone call one day,” she shared. “Heidi is now trying to get pregnant for five months now. They say, ‘We have a referral for you,’ which means they’ve matched you with a child. I was like, ‘This is unbelievable, this is great!’ I come home and tell Heidi, and in less than 24 hours she says, ‘By the way, I’m pregnant.’ ”

Charlize Theron:
Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron, who stars in Snow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus this summer, shocked fans with her baby news in March. The actress adopted a baby boy named Jackson.

Charlize recently opened up about a letter she wrote at 8-years-old, sharing her plans for a future adoption.

“My mother found [it]. It said, ‘Would you please take me to orphanage, so that I can go and adopt a baby?’ I always knew I would adopt – always,” she shared.

Sandra Bullock:
Not only did Sandra Bullock become an Academy Award-winner in 2010, she also become a mom. The Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close actress adopted a New Orleans-born boy, Louis, in January 2010.

Now 2-years-old, Louis has become Sandra’s greatest joy: “He’s just perfect, I can’t even describe him any other way.”

Sandra opened up about the first time she laid eyes on her gorgeous son:

“The first time I met Louis, it was like the whole outside world got quiet,” she said. “It was like he had always been a part of our lives. All I said when I met him was, ‘Oh, there you are.’”

5 Olympic Moms Headed To London Summer Games

Friday, July 13th, 2012

This post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

With the London Summer Games commencing on July 27th, CelebrityBabyScoop’s getting into the Olympic spirit. And we’re not the only ones! Mom-to-be Giuliana Rancic will broadcast live in London, while mom-of-four Nicole Kidman also plans to attend the upcoming games.

Celebrity Baby Scoop sat down with some Olympic moms such as Kerri Walsh and Christie Rampone who are going for the gold this summer, along with celebrated Olympians Shannon Miller and Summer Sanders who plan to broadcast live from the upcoming games.

Read on about 5 inspirational Olympic mamas.

Kerri Walsh:
Volleyball superstar Kerri Walsh, 33 – known as “Six Feet of Sunshine” – is feeling “stronger than ever” for the London games! The two-time Olympic gold medalist and her partner Misty May-Treanor are going for the gold in their fourth Olympic appearance this summer. Kerri is also busy playing the role of mom for her two young sons Joey, 2, and Sundance, 1.

“I definitely feel more ready and stronger than ever,” Kerri said of the upcoming summer Olympics. ”There is so much hope and enthusiasm right now, and the Olympic spirit is picking up in the United States. We also have a new coach added to our coaching staff, so we are learning so much and breaking down bad habits. It is very exciting to be growing in all the right ways, and we are really focused, determined, and happy. It’s a really great combo.”

And don’t discount a fifth Olympic appearance! “I think it would be amazing to win a gold medal in Brazil,” Kerri said.

Christie Rampone:
Soccer star Christie Rampone is set to compete in her fourth Olympics this summer. And the team’s captain couldn’t be more excited to have her family-of-four cheering her on!

“Reece (2) and Rylie (6) will be going to London with their dad and some of my family and friends,” Christie said. “It means the world to me and it will be exciting to see them wearing the red, white and blue with plenty of face paint and hair coloring!”

Shannon Miller:
Considered one of the greatest gymnasts in U.S. history, Shannon Miller holds 7 Olympic and 9 World Championship medals. Now mom to 2-year-old son Rocco, the 35-year-old athlete opened up about supporting the Team USA‘s Raise our Flag initiative, and the gymnasts to watch this year.

“I’ll be in London as an analyst,” she said. “I’m so excited for Team USA. Jordyn Wieber is the current world champion moving into the Olympics so she will certainly be one to watch. Gabby Douglas has surprised many this year. Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney are names that continue to be in the mix for one of the top spots on the team. Of course we have quite a few from the 2008 Olympic Team making comebacks including Nastia Liukin and Bridget Sloan. With only a five person team this year it will be all about staying healthy and being consistent.”

Summer Sanders:
Nearly twenty years ago, Summer Sanders made swimming history at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, winning four medals, including two gold. Now the mom of daughter Skye, 6, and son Spider, 4, will be commenting for Yahoo!Sports at the Olympics this year in London.

“I will be broadcasting with Yahoo. I’ve been doing a series already called Elite Athlete Workouts,” Summer said. ”We did it with a bunch of different athletes and now we’re focussing on Olympians. Then I’ll do swimming coverage over there for the first eight days. The following nine days will be following every story under the sun. We’ll cover inspirational, fun stories, night life at the Olympic games, I’ll have my kids there so we’ll cover experiencing the games with family. We’ll feature Team USA and the Americans who have come over. My hope is that everyone catches the Olympic fever and understands what the Olympic spirit is all about.”

Brandi Chastain:
Brandi Chastain is a professional soccer defender and midfielder who plays for the team California Storm of Women’s Premier Soccer League and is a former member of the United States women’s national soccer team. The mom to sons Cameron, 23, and Jaden, 5, opened up about broadcasting for the upcoming London games.

“I will be doing the commentary for NBC for the Olympics,” Brandi said. “As a professional in broadcasting, I am just hoping for a really good Olympics. Last summer for the World Cup, every single game was competitive. Every game had an impact on who finished in the groups and who made it to the knockout round. I am looking for a great tournament with a lot of skill and athleticism. I think the key match-ups will be anyone that plays Japan, because right now they are playing the best soccer that anyone’s seen in the world. It is a call to action for the U.S. women’s national team.”

10 Favorite New Babies in Hollywood

Friday, April 6th, 2012

Favorite Celeb BabiesThis post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

It’s a Hollywood’s baby boom!

From R&B royalty Jay-Z and Beyoncé‘s firstborn child Blue Ivy, and David and Victoria Beckham’s first daughter Harper Seven, to Pink and Carey Hart’s sweet girl Willow Sage, there have been some adorable new arrivals into Tinseltown!

Take a look through our list of 10 beautiful new babies in Hollywood.

Babies of 2012…

Blue Ivy Carter:

R&B royalty Jay-Z and Beyoncé welcomed one of the most highly-anticipated babies in Hollywood, daughter Blue Ivy, on January 7, 2012. The superstar couple released a touching statement to announce the birth of their first child’s birth. “Hello Hello Baby Blue!” they stated. “We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”

 Samuel Garner Affleck:

We can’t wait to see sweet baby Sam!

After having two daughters – Violet, 6, and Seraphina, 3 – high-profile couple Ben Affleck andJennifer Garner finally welcomed a boy! Their third child, son Samuel Garner, was born on February 27, 2012. “We are happy to announce on February 27, Jennifer gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Samuel Garner Affleck,” Ben wrote on his Facebook page.”

Babies of 2011…

Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway:

Canadian crooner Alanis Morissette and husband Mario “Souleye” welcomed their first child, son Ever, on Christmas Day, 2010. Although she seems a natural, the of You Oughta Knowsinger admits, “I remain baffled at how little I was prepared for what was to come.” “It was all I could do not to cry out for the kind of mothering that I was intending to offer my lil’ one,” Alanis reflected as a new mom. “Someone who could swoop in and just DO THIS FOR ME while they pet my trembling head, while I whimpered in the corner. I remember crying out on a walk up the street, startling a dog. This dog was not easily startled. But no, this motherhood business was my call to rise to. And mine alone,” the ‘Thank You’ singer writes. “And there was no doula alive that could have reached in and taught me what I have learned through experience. There was no midwife who could show me how to grow up, warp-speed from complicated contemplative maiden to accountable matriarch. These things required months of growth and calibrating! And here I naively thought that I would arrive as a MOM at the same time as my lil’ boy arrived as a SON. The latter waaay preceded the former.”

 Faith Margaret Kidman Urban:

At the age of 40, Nicole Kidman gave birth to her first biological child, daughter Sunday Rose, in July 2008 with her country singing superstar hubby Keith Urban. The power couple didn’t stop there — on December 28, 2010 they welcomed another daughter, Faith Margaret, who was delivered via gestational carrier. “Having given birth and then being there to see my child born in that way, I felt so much love for our surrogate, gestational carrier,” Nicole said. She’s also opened up about her “roller-coaster ride with fertility.”

 Flynn Christopher Blanchard Copeland Bloom:

On January 6, 2011, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr welcomed their first child, son Flynn. Baby Flynn has topped the charts as a favorite new tot in Tinseltown!

“He’s a great kid. I love it.” Orlando said of his sweet son. “He’s wonderful [and] laughs more than he cries – we’re very lucky.”

[Flynn is] “the best thing I’ve ever done!,” Miranda gushed. “Every day it just gets better,” she added.

10 Celebrity Moms Pregnant Over 40

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Celeb Moms Over 40This post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

Forty is the new thirty!

Whether they’re conceiving the old-fashioned way or getting help from a fertility specialist, more and more celebrities are finding their 40′s to be fertile. From Uma Thurman, to Tina Fey, to Céline Dion, to Mariah Carey, take a look at 10 celebrity moms pregnant over 40.

Uma Thurman:

The latest Hollywood star to announce a later-in-life pregnancy is actress Uma Thurman. On Monday, the 41-year-old actress confirmed that she’s expecting her first child with financier Arpad Busson.

“She’s excited,” an insider said. “She’s happy and just a few months along right now. She’s due in late, late summer.”

This will be the third child for Uma, who is already mom to daughter Maya, 13, and son Levon, 10, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke.

Céline Dion:

At 42, singing superstar Céline Dion announced that she and her husband René Angelil, then 68, were expecting twins. The French-Canadian songstress, whose previous IVF attempts had failed, opened up about the exhausting year-long endeavor. “I feel like I’ve been pregnant more than a year,” Céline said. “I never gave up. But I can tell you that it was physically and emotionally exhausting.”

On October 23, 2010, the My Heart Will Go On singer gave birth to fraternal twin boys, Nelson and Eddy. The couple are also parents to 11-year-old son René-Charles.

Halle Berry:

Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry gave birth to her only child, daughter Nahla, when she was 42. Nahla’s dad is Berry’s ex-boyfriend, model Gabriel Aubrey, with whom she is currently embroiled in a bitter custody battle over their now 3-year-old daughter.

With regard to becoming pregnant in her 40′s, Halle said, “When I looked at the stick and saw I was pregnant … I was so happy. I thought I knew love before, but I never knew anything like this.”

 Tina Fey:

It was baby bumps galore on the set of 30 Rock! Jane Krakowski wasn’t the only over-40 mama-to-be at the popular TV show. The show’s creator/writer/star Tina Fey delivered her second child, daughter Penelope Athena, in August 2011 at age 41. The SNL alum chatted about having her second baby later in life.

“I went for my annual checkup and, tired of carrying this anxiety around, burst into tears the moment she said hello,” the writer and actress shared in her memoir, Bossypants. “I laid it all out for her, and the main thing I took away from our conversation was the kind of simple observation that only an impartial third party can provide: ‘Either way, everything will be fine,’” wrote Tina.

In her book, Tina also admitted that she was “stricken with guilt and panic” every time her daughter, “the only child in her class without a sibling,” would say, “I wish I had a baby sister.” “Do I look like someone who should be pregnant? I look good for 40, but I have the quaggy jawline and hollow cheeks of a mom, not a pregnant lady,” Tina shared. “What’s so great about work anyway?,” she wrote. “Work won’t visit you when you’re old. Work won’t drive you to get a mammogram and take you out after for soup.”
