Babies of 2011…
Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway:
Canadian crooner Alanis Morissette and husband Mario “Souleye” welcomed their first child, son Ever, on Christmas Day, 2010. Although she seems a natural, the of You Oughta Knowsinger admits, “I remain baffled at how little I was prepared for what was to come.” “It was all I could do not to cry out for the kind of mothering that I was intending to offer my lil’ one,” Alanis reflected as a new mom. “Someone who could swoop in and just DO THIS FOR ME while they pet my trembling head, while I whimpered in the corner. I remember crying out on a walk up the street, startling a dog. This dog was not easily startled. But no, this motherhood business was my call to rise to. And mine alone,” the ‘Thank You’ singer writes. “And there was no doula alive that could have reached in and taught me what I have learned through experience. There was no midwife who could show me how to grow up, warp-speed from complicated contemplative maiden to accountable matriarch. These things required months of growth and calibrating! And here I naively thought that I would arrive as a MOM at the same time as my lil’ boy arrived as a SON. The latter waaay preceded the former.”
Faith Margaret Kidman Urban:
At the age of 40, Nicole Kidman gave birth to her first biological child, daughter Sunday Rose, in July 2008 with her country singing superstar hubby Keith Urban. The power couple didn’t stop there — on December 28, 2010 they welcomed another daughter, Faith Margaret, who was delivered via gestational carrier. “Having given birth and then being there to see my child born in that way, I felt so much love for our surrogate, gestational carrier,” Nicole said. She’s also opened up about her “roller-coaster ride with fertility.”
Flynn Christopher Blanchard Copeland Bloom:
On January 6, 2011, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr welcomed their first child, son Flynn. Baby Flynn has topped the charts as a favorite new tot in Tinseltown!
“He’s a great kid. I love it.” Orlando said of his sweet son. “He’s wonderful [and] laughs more than he cries – we’re very lucky.”
[Flynn is] “the best thing I’ve ever done!,” Miranda gushed. “Every day it just gets better,” she added.
Whether they’re conceiving the old-fashioned way or getting help from a fertility specialist, more and more celebrities are finding their 40′s to be fertile. From Uma Thurman, to Tina Fey, to Céline Dion, to Mariah Carey, take a look at 10 celebrity moms pregnant over 40.
Uma Thurman:
The latest Hollywood star to announce a later-in-life pregnancy is actress Uma Thurman. On Monday, the 41-year-old actress confirmed that she’s expecting her first child with financier Arpad Busson.
“She’s excited,” an insider said. “She’s happy and just a few months along right now. She’s due in late, late summer.”
This will be the third child for Uma, who is already mom to daughter Maya, 13, and son Levon, 10, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke.
Céline Dion:
At 42, singing superstar Céline Dion announced that she and her husband René Angelil, then 68, were expecting twins. The French-Canadian songstress, whose previous IVF attempts had failed, opened up about the exhausting year-long endeavor. “I feel like I’ve been pregnant more than a year,” Céline said. “I never gave up. But I can tell you that it was physically and emotionally exhausting.”
On October 23, 2010, the My Heart Will Go On singer gave birth to fraternal twin boys, Nelson and Eddy. The couple are also parents to 11-year-old son René-Charles.
Halle Berry:
Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry gave birth to her only child, daughter Nahla, when she was 42. Nahla’s dad is Berry’s ex-boyfriend, model Gabriel Aubrey, with whom she is currently embroiled in a bitter custody battle over their now 3-year-old daughter.
With regard to becoming pregnant in her 40′s, Halle said, “When I looked at the stick and saw I was pregnant … I was so happy. I thought I knew love before, but I never knew anything like this.”
It was baby bumps galore on the set of 30 Rock! Jane Krakowski wasn’t the only over-40 mama-to-be at the popular TV show. The show’s creator/writer/star Tina Fey delivered her second child, daughter Penelope Athena, in August 2011 at age 41. The SNL alum chatted about having her second baby later in life.
“I went for my annual checkup and, tired of carrying this anxiety around, burst into tears the moment she said hello,” the writer and actress shared in her memoir, Bossypants. “I laid it all out for her, and the main thing I took away from our conversation was the kind of simple observation that only an impartial third party can provide: ‘Either way, everything will be fine,’” wrote Tina.
In her book, Tina also admitted that she was “stricken with guilt and panic” every time her daughter, “the only child in her class without a sibling,” would say, “I wish I had a baby sister.” “Do I look like someone who should be pregnant? I look good for 40, but I have the quaggy jawline and hollow cheeks of a mom, not a pregnant lady,” Tina shared. “What’s so great about work anyway?,” she wrote. “Work won’t visit you when you’re old. Work won’t drive you to get a mammogram and take you out after for soup.”
Lots of moms-to-be experiment with belly art during pregnancy whether they incorporate their bump into a Halloween costume or paint their belly to create a fun photo. But now more and more moms-to-be are taking pregnant belly art to the next level – hiring professional artists to create painted bellies that are even more wild, wacky, and to some, beautiful.
We’re all for embracing your pregnancy and showing off your bump, but is paying a pro going too far? NY Daily News reports that expectant moms are paying around $250 to be painted with FDA-approved theater makeup, a process that can take up to three hours. And professional belly painters (yes, they do exist!) say they’re getting busier and busier.
Mariah Carey may have had something to do with the booming belly art trend. She showed off painted bumps via Twitter twice earlier this year – once as an Easter egg and once as a half pink, half blue butterfly in honor of her twins-to-be, now Monroe and Moroccan Scott. We don’t know how much Carey paid for her belly artistry, if anything at all, yet we do know her budget for such things is larger than that of the average mom-to-be.
As a parent or expectant mom, do you think professional belly painting is a frivolous or irresponsible way to spend a few hundred dollars?
Mariah Carey gave Nick Cannon quite the present for their 3-year wedding anniversary on Saturday when she gave birth to twins.
“My wife just gave me the most incredible anniversary gift ever in life! I won’t ever be able to top this!” Cannon tweeted.
After the birth, the couple listened to Carey’s song, “We Belong Together.”
The names have yet to be released but Carey’s rep said the baby girl was born first weighing 5 lbs, 3 oz., and was 18 in. Her brother weighed 5 lbs 6 oz, and was 19 in.
Throughout Carey’s pregnancy, the singer did not hesitate to publicize her pregnancy and her belly. In fact, she tweeted photos of her painted pregnant bellies twice – once for her birthday and once for Easter.
Per tradition, the couple renewed their vows the next day in a hospital ceremony conducted by Rev. Al Sharpton who tweeted, ““I am so moved by the sincere spiritual commitment of Mariah and Nick. They have not let success separate them from God. I am so proud.”
Mariah Carey showed off a new painted belly over the weekend. This time she sported a giant Easter egg belly featuring a blue and a pink heart as a nod to “Dem Babies” as Carey likes to call her twins-to-be. As with her previous butterfly belly art, she posted the photo on Twitter saying “HAPPY EASTER! Ummm.. READY!!!!!!!!!!!! Done and done.”
Carey is due to deliver her twins any day now, so it’s no surprise she’s ready to meet her babies, but we’ll miss her painted bellies.
Mariah Carey gave her pregnant belly an artsy makeover on Sunday in honor of her 42nd birthday, and she shared her butterfly belly art on Twitter for all to see. She called it an attempt at festiveness and says she is so ready already!
Surprisingly Carey, who is expecting twins in a few weeks with her husband Nick Cannon, still felt like celebrating after her pregnancy scare over the weekend. She went to the hospital thinking the babies were coming early, but it was a false alarm.
In true Carey style, she chose a hand-painted butterfly for her belly art, with the phrase “dem babies.” Since the couple is expecting a boy and a girl, the butterfly’s half blue and half pink design is likely a tribute to her babies-to-be.
Is she or isn’t she? It seems like the rumor mills have been churning over whether or not Mariah Carey is pregnant basically since the day the 41-year-old songstress married hubby Nick Cannon two years ago.
Well, it’s finally official: Carey confirmed that she and Cannon, 30, are expecting their first child this spring.
The couple is shy to give any specific details in order to “hold onto a shred of privacy,” but they did admit that they haven’t found out whether it’s a boy or a girl yet.
“”It’s absolutely emotional,” Cannon explained. “The greatest gift on earth is a child.”
