A few hours before Hurricane Sandy made landfall in New Jersey, Governor Chris Christie said he would cancel Halloween in New Jersey pending on conditions. Today, he delivered on that promise.
Christie signed an executive order postponing all celebrations of the holiday until Monday, November 5. He cited flooding, fallen trees, downed power lines, and emergency work as potential dangers to children and their families.
“I’ve taken this action to minimize additional risks to lives and the public safety as we begin the process of rebuilding and recovering from Hurricane Sandy,” Christie said.
New Jersey is still under a state of emergency. President Obama will be in New Jersey this afternoon to survey the damage with Christie.

Millions of people from Maine to the Carolinas awoke Tuesday without electricity, and an eerily quiet New York City was all but closed off by car, train and air as superstorm Sandy steamed inland, still delivering punishing wind and rain.
