Hilary Duff: “I don’t want to rush him through life and the stages that are going by so quickly.”

Hilary Duff Announces Each Pack of Trident Gum purchased This Week Is A Donation to Smiles Across AmericaYesterday, Hilary Duff celebrated Trident gum’s 10-year anniversary of their sponsorship of Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America campaign. (The campaign provides oral disease prevention to uninsured children.) This week 5 cents of every pack of Trident gum purchased—up to $200,000—will go to the cause! Parents sat down with the actress-cum-pop star and mom of 2-year-old Luca to talk dental health, why she’s more afraid of the terrible 3s than the 2s, and her own mommy monologue—Lizzie McGuire-style.

P: You’ve been involved in a lot of charitable work, what drew you to this cause?

HD: I think I just got inspired knowing that Trident has supported Oral Health America for the past ten years and they’ve raised over 2 million dollars doing such good. I’m starting to work with my son, taking care of his teeth everyday and trying to teach him how to brush. I’ve always had teeth issues so I know how painful it can be. I want to teach him how important it is to keep healthy teeth and brush after meals. And it’s my gum! This is actually my gum that I buy.

P: Speaking of teaching your son to brush, is he brushing his own teeth? Does he ever complain about having to do it?

HD: He wants to brush his own, but I brush him first and then I let him “brush.” We started brushing when he had two little nubs sticking out just to get him used to it. My friend told me, “Get a toothbrush in there as soon as you can and make it a habit and routine.” We try to make it fun. I’ll be like “I bet you can’t stand on one foot while I brush your teeth” and he goes “I can! I can! I can!”

Aside from brushing, healthy eating habits are important, too. Check out Parents’ Toddler Nutrition Quiz to see if he’s eating right.

P: Now that Luca is 2 years old, tell me: Are they terrible?

HD: No. Not at all. I’m worried for 3 because 2 has been a breeze.

P: What’s your favorite part about 2?

HD: I think just all the vocabulary that happens. He’s getting so vocal and now he can put 4 or 5 words together. It’s a big thing when they can start joining words, but it’s sad too because some of the really cute things that you love go away quick. He’s starting to sing. He loves to sing the ABCs and The Great Big Spider—he does not like The Itsy Bitsy Spider he likes The Great Big Spider.

P: So you changed the words?

HD: Yes. And I guess…just how capable he is with everything now. He knows what he wants, but he’s a very sweet little boy and he has a really good spirit. He has the best smile. I’m lucky, but I’m a little afraid for 3 because 2 has been great.

P: Is there anything that he does that makes you think “Oh my gosh, he’s such a little mini-me?”

HD: All of his vocal-isms. He says “oh!” all the time because I say “Oh.” I’ll say to him “It’s time to go!” He’ll say “OH!” The other day I put something on instagram where he sprayed me with the hose. I didn’t think he could pull the trigger because they’re really tough. I just say “sure” all the time and I said “You can’t spray me” and he said “SURE!” and then pssshhhhh blasted me with the hose. He also says “No way” which is bad. I usually say it in a good way when I get excited like “no wayyyy”  and now he says it in a bad way. I’m like “Do you want to change your diaper?” “No way!” Excuse me? The sass.

P: This year has been a year of transition for your family. What has been the key to maintaining a positive parenting relationship for you and for Luca, perhaps as an example for other moms that might be going through harder times?

HD: I think the key thing for us is that he’s our main priority and we love and care for him so much and so everything else will straighten out eventually. We’re just trying to move forward with as much love as we can for him and our family. And we have a lot of respect for each other.

P: You’re most famous for your portrayal of Lizzie McGuire. She always had that inner monologue running through her head as a cartoon. What’s your mommy inner monologue like?

HD: I wish I could be funny right now, but I really don’t think it’s funny. I think a lot of the time I remind myself to count to ten. Take a breather. Their little legs can’t always keep up with ours and I don’t want to rush him through life and rush through the stages that I notice are going by so quickly. My life is so busy and so hectic and I move so quickly that it’s like, take it down a notch. It’s all good. So I think Ok count to 10. Sometimes it’s so easy to say “I’m just gonna pick you up and we’re gonna go,” but I want to be really patient with him.

Hilary Duff: “I Love Being A Mom”

Friday, May 17th, 2013

This post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

Hilary Duff has joined the campaign to support Johnson’s Baby Cares partnership with Save the Children for the second year in a row. The actress recently visited the Save the Children early childhood education school in Yucca Valley, California – where she met with families who benefit from the program.

Celebrity Baby Scoop recently had a chance to catch up with Hilary about the Johnson’s Baby Cares program, her 1-year-old son Luca, and her biggest motherhood rewards.

Celebrity Baby Scoop: Tell us about partnering with Johnson’s Baby for Johnson’s Baby Cares. What’s it all about? Why did you get involved?

Hilary Duff: I can’t believe I have my first year as a mom under my belt – time flies. Looking back on it, I’ve been thinking a lot about the support I received from my family, friends and fans over the past year, and how their words of encouragement really helped me get through some challenging days.

Unfortunately not all moms have the same support system or even basic everyday resources to help them with motherhood. That’s why I’m proud to partner with Johnson’s Baby Cares for the second year on its newest campaign centered around Johnson’s Baby “Care Cards” – which is helping to deliver encouragement and positive support to moms across the country, while also raising funds for families and babies assisted by Save the Children.

Now, everyone can help in an easy and fun way! Visit Johnson’s Baby’s Facebook page to send a digital Care Card filled with love and inspiration to a special mom in your life. For every card sent, shared or liked Johnson’s Baby will donate $1 to Save the Children to benefit early parenting and childhood education programs.

CBS: How’s baby Luca doing? Is he into everything these days now that he’s walking?

HD: “Luca’s incredible! I can’t believe he is already 13 months old. He’s certainly an active boy and yes, even more so now that he is walking. In fact, he basically skipped the walking stage and went straight to “speed walking.” I spend my days on my feet trailing him around the house and yard!”

CBS: How has your life changed in the last year since you’ve become a mother? What are the greatest rewards of motherhood? Biggest challenges?

HD: I really love being a mom.Motherhoodchanges the way you see the world. I’ve always been passionate about giving back, but now I’m more passionate about supporting causes that help other moms and babies, like Johnson’s Baby Cares.

I’m rewarded by Luca every day, whether it’s with a new smile or an accomplished milestone, but the biggest reward has to be discovering this tremendous newfound love that I had no idea existed within me. Every day brings new challenges, but you learn to trust yourself and your instincts to help get through them.

CBS: You seem to have the ‘perfect’ life with a great career and family life. But do you think women can REALLY ‘have it all’? Have you had to make sacrifices now that you’re a mom?

HD: Nobody’s life is perfect but in this day and age women are able to find a balance between work and home life. Of course my life has changed but I don’t think of them as sacrifices because I was ready for this new chapter!

CBS: We saw you and Mike enjoying Coachella. Comment on the importance of making time as a couple. Do you think it’s important? Do you have regular date nights?

HD: Yes of course it’s important to make time to focus on your relationship. But it’s not always easy! We aren’t huge planners, we tend to do things last minute but we enjoy going out for nice dinners or spending time with friends.

We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”

2. India Rose Hemsworth

Not out of any skill on my behalf, but my wife has been amazing.” The Aussie actor adds that fatherhood has already shifted his perspective: “Just her being here. It’s certainly taken all my focus and attention away from work — or what have you — but that’s the main thing on my brain right now. It’s wonderful.”

E.T. star Drew Barrymore and husband Will Kopelman welcomed their first child, daughter Olive, on September 26, 2012. “We are proud to announce the birth of our daughter,” the newlyweds announced.

“I can’t wait until I have my children,” Drew said just weeks before welcoming baby Olive. “I love the idea that they don’t have to do something that they have no interest in, that they can do something completely opposite if they want to. I will be so surprised if they don’t want to do something involving food or wine or art, but I’ll be OK with it. I just want to build fun, great things for my family.”

5. Maxwell Drew Johnson

Singer-turned-entrepreneur Jessica Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson welcomed their first child, daughter Maxwell Drew, on May 1, 2012. And by all accounts, it seems the Fashion Star mentor has taken to motherhood like a duck to water.

10 Celebrity Moms Breastfeeding Their Babies

Monday, October 8th, 2012

This post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

With new mom Beyoncé among the celebrity moms who have no qualms about breastfeeding in public, we’re taking a look at 10 high-profile mamas who love nursing their babies.

Proud breastfeeding mama Pink says “I don’t give a sh*t what somebody else thinks” when it comes to nursing her 15-month-old daughter Willow, while new mom Snooki says breast milk is “best” for newborn son Lorenzo. Read on for more from Hollywood’s nursing mamas.

1. Pink

Pink is a proud breastfeeding mama and she’s ready to stand her ground against anyone who criticizes her for doing so. During a recent radio interview, the Grammy Award-winning singer recounted an altercation at a restaurant she visited with her husband and their now 15-month-old daughter Willow.

“The first time we went out to a restaurant, there was a guy who walked by, I had a cover on and it’s called a Hooter Hider,” the Blow Me (One Last Kiss) singer said.

“I had a Hooter Hider on and this guy walks by and was like, ‘Uughhh.’ He was just disgusted. I was like, ‘You didn’t get enough hugs when you were little.’ Carrie said, ‘You are starting fights in restaurants?’ I said, ‘I will… I will fight, hold my baby.’”

“I think breastfeeding is healthy and natural and it’s a comfort to my baby, so I can give a sh*t what somebody else thinks,” Pink said.

2. Snooki

New mom Snooki has been sharing pic after pic of her sweet 5-week-old son Lorenzo. And it turns out the reality TV star has changed her tune about breastfeeding.

The Jersey Shore star, who is engaged to Lorenzo’s father Jionni LaValle, told one of her pregnant Twitter followers, “All the pain and anxiety is so worth it!!!”

The pint-sized reality starlet confessed in June that she was “scared” of breastfeeding because it “looks so painful.” She added, “It’s kind of like you’re a cow and you’re just milking.”

But the new mom has had a change of heart! “I love nursing my little man!” she recently said.

“He holds his bottle like a champ,” the Jersey Shore star, 24, posted via Instagram. Presumed to be pumped breast milk in Enzo’s bottle, Snooki tweeted about the benefits of breastfeeding.

When a fan asked, “Does breastfeeding really burn like a zillion calories?,” the reality TV starlet tweeted, “I’ve lost a lot of my baby weight! Also it’s the best for him!”

3. Miranda Kerr

Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr and her handsome hubby Orlando Bloom welcomed their first child, son Flynn, in January 2011.

Although the industry expects supermodels to regain their svelte figure immediately, Miranda said her first priority was breastfeeding her babe.

“I didn’t feel pressure to snap back into shape,” she said. “My priority was just having my son and breastfeeding, which was something I really wanted to do, and it came easily.”

And she extended breastfeeding, nursing Flynn past his first birthday.

“I intend to breastfeed for as long as I can,” she said. “My breast milk will give our little Flynn the nutrition he needs for his continued healthy development and to all mums out there I am sure you will make the right choice for you and your baby.”

5 Celebrity Moms on Losing the Baby Weight

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

This post was written by Jenny Schafer from Celebrity Baby Scoop.

Losing the baby weight is challenging for most women. But when you’re a celebrity mom, Hollywood’s beauty standards can make the postpartum period downright miserable.

Let’s take a look at 5 high-profile mamas who have opened up about weight loss post-pregnancy. Read about Gisele Bündchen‘s “muscle memory,” to Hilary Duff not losing the baby weight “overnight,” to Gwen Stefani admitting it was “no miracle” that she’s regained her svelte figure.

Alyson Hannigan:
American Pie star Alyson Hannigan and her husband, actor Alexis Denisof, welcomed their second daughter, Keeva Jane,  on May 23. The Buffy alums are also parents to 3-year-old daughter Satyana.

Since welcoming baby Keeva, Alyson has talked about not losing the baby weight quickly enough for Tinseltown.

“I think by Hollywood standards I’m supposed to be in bikini shape now that my baby is 4 weeks old,” she playfully tweeted. “My workout goal: Food drops in lap, not on belly.”

Despite her woes, fans of the How I Met Your Mother star showed their support for “setting a good example” and not rushing to lose the baby weight.

Alyson replied, “I still haven’t lost all the weight from my first daughter. Oh well.”

Hilary Duff:
Lizzie McGuire actress Hilary Duff and husband, hockey star Mike Comrie, welcomed their first child, son Luca, on March 20. The Disney darling recently said that she enjoyed eating during her pregnancy.

“My whole life you know I worked out and exercised and been in the public eye and always watched what I ate. This was like a vacation,” Hilary said of enjoying eating during pregnancy. “I had a blast. I wouldn’t go back and change it. I had a lot of fun.”

The new mom has also opened up about her postpartum weight loss.

“I’m not perfect, but I feel fantastic,” she said. “This is how it goes for most women – the weight doesn’t fall off overnight.”

The actress-singer, 24, added that she’s been exercising “a few” times a week, mixing spin classes with private training sessions.

She added that her hubby “doesn’t care” about her extra pregnancy weight, and added, “Even during my pregnancy he thought I was beautiful.”

Gisele Bündchen:
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen and her husband, football star Tom Brady, welcomed their first child together, son Benjamin, on December 8, 2009.

The Brazilian beauty talked about regaining her figure almost instantly after Benjamin’s birth.

“I think it’s muscle memory,” Gisele said. “I did kung fu up until two weeks before Benjamin was born, and yoga three days a week. I think a lot of people get pregnant and decide they can turn into garbage disposals. I was mindful about what I ate, and I gained only 30 pounds.”

Molly Sims:
Actress Molly Sims and husband Scott Stuber welcomed their first child, son Brooks Alan, on June 19. The new mom recently opened up about her mission to lose the 50 pounds of baby weight that she gained during her first pregnancy.

“Eating during my pregnancy was easy, but losing the baby weight – that’s going to be a whole other story,” Molly wrote on MollySims.com. “As much as I tried to stick to a healthy diet and exercise routine while I was pregnant, I ended up gaining 50 pounds—so let’s just say I have my work cut out for me! But no matter what it takes, being in the best shape possible has always been very important to me. I’m more than willing to put in the work to get my pre-baby body back.”

Gwen Stefani:
Rockers Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are parents to two sons – Kingston, 6, and Zuma, nearly 4. Five months after welcoming Kingston, Gwen talked about her postpartum weight loss.

“That’s been really hard,” she said of losing the weight. “But it’s almost gone. I’ve just been eating healthy,” she said, adding, “I cheat every day at least once.”

The uber-svelte No Doubt frontwoman has admitted to struggling with her weight and body image after having two children. She said that her current figure is “no miracle” and that it took eight months to lose the baby weight after the arrival of Zuma.

And even Gavin chimed in about the pressures on his wife to lose the baby weight under the limelight.

“Yeah, she does [feel under pressure to lose the weight fast], Gavin said. “I mean, she’s just so dedicated and she’s just amazing with that stuff (weight loss). It’s very hard because everyone’s so judged the whole time.”

10 Celeb Moms Celebrating Their First Mother’s Day

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

First Mother's DayThis post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

Happy Mother’s Day!

In celebration of moms everywhere, let’s take a look at Hollywood’s newest matriarchs who will celebrate their first Mother’s Day on May 13. From Beyoncé, to Hilary Duff, to January Jones, look through our list of 10 celebrity moms celebrating for the first time this year.

 Beyoncé:

R&B royalty Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed daughter Blue Ivy on January 7, 2012. The superstar couple released a touching statement to announce the birth of their first child. “Hello Hello Baby Blue!” they stated. “We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”

Hilary Duff:

Disney darling Hilary Duff and hockey star Mike Comrie welcomed their first child on March 20. “Welcome to the World Luca Cruz Comrie! Tuesday evening, we became proud parents of a healthy 7 pound 6 ounce beautiful boy,” Hilary announced via Twitter. “We are overjoyed and feel like the luckiest parents in the world,” the 24-year-old actress continued. “He is surrounded by so much love!! Mom and baby are both doing extremely well.”

Two weeks after her son’s arrival, the proud new mom shared the first photo of their beautiful boy on Twitter.

Pink:

Pink and husband Carey Hart welcomed their first child, daughter Willow Sage, on June 2, 2011. After welcoming her gorgeous girl, the Grammy Award-winner said, “My life was once whiskey, tears and cigarettes. Now it’s snot, tears and the color of poop. I do miss the whiskey, though!”

“ummm i just have to say that my daughter may be the most bestest amazingest stupendoustest baby ever made in the history of the planet,” Pink gushed about her gorgeous girl via Twitter.

January Jones:

January Jones gave birth to her first child, son Xander Dane, on September 13, 2011. While the Mad Men star has remained mum on the identity of Xander’s father, she’s been open about the joys of motherhood. “I think I went back to set six or seven weeks after, so he was really little,” January said. “I had the baby and the baby nurse in their own room so I could go back and feed him every two hours. If I felt like he needed me, or if he needed to eat, or even if I just needed a squeeze because I was having separation issues, I would go back and see him. It was such a blessing that I wasn’t separated from him.”

And not to mention eating those placenta pills! “I have a great doula who makes sure I’m eating well, with vitamins and teas, and with placenta capsulation,” she said. “Your placenta gets dehydrated and made into vitamins. It’s something I was very hesitant about, but we’re the only mammals who don’t ingest our own placentas. It’s not witch-crafty or anything! I suggest it to all moms!”

Selma Blair:

Cruel Intentions star Selma Blair and partner Jason Bleick welcomed their first child, son Arthur Saint, on July 25, 2011. And like most first-time moms, Selma admits she’s “really obsessed” with her sweet son. “I never want to leave his side,” she said. “I’m one of those hovering mothers and I know it’s really important to have an independent child, so I’m trying to back off, but it’s hard. I love him so much, and he’s so funny and cute to me.”

Hilary Duff On “Amazing” Son, Breastfeeding, Joys Of Motherhood

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

Hilary Duff and FamilyThis post was written by our friends at Celebrity Baby Scoop.

New mom Hilary Duff is loving motherhood and her “well behaved” bundle of joy! The Lizzie McGuire alum welcomed first child, son Luca Cruz, on March 20 with hockey star husband Mike Comrie. The actress, author, entrepreneur and recording artist, 24, has partnered with JOHNSON’S® Baby and Save the Children “to help other moms and babies throughout the world.”

Hilary opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about her “amazing” newborn son who “sleeps like a pro,” her increased “sense of confidence as a mom compared to Day 1,” and her breastfeeding and Pilates routines.

CBS: Tell us about partnering with JOHNSON’S® Baby and Save the Children for the launch of a new charitable platform, JOHNSON’S® Baby CARES.

HD: “Now that I’m a mom, I’ve been touched and inspired to help other moms and babies throughout the world. This is why I teamed up with the JOHNSON’S® Baby CARES campaign in support of Save the Children, which helps to provide funding and resources to ensure families have basic essentials to care for their babies in times of crisis.

So many children live in areas that are at risk for natural disasters. Each year, Save the Children responds to at least 30 crises globally – from the smaller, local events that we may not hear about on the news, to the larger, more extreme ones – all of which have a tremendous impact on babies and children, who are always the most vulnerable in these times.”

CBS: How can we get involved?

HD: “You can support this campaign by visiting the JOHNSON’S® Baby CARES tab on JOHNSON’S Facebook page to learn more about the partnership with Save the Children.”

CBS: Congratulations on the birth of Luca Cruz! How is he doing? What kind of baby is he so far?

HD: “Amazing! He is very well behaved – he eats and sleeps like a pro!”

CBS: How have you adjusted to motherhood? What are some of the the biggest challenges and greatest joys so far?

HD: “Getting Luca on a schedule that works for both of us – it’s tough at first but he is getting better every day. The joy I get comes from seeing him grow every day and get stronger. Also, the sense of confidence I have as a mom compared to Day 1.”

CBS: Are you breastfeeding Luca? If so, how’s that going?

HD: “Yes, it’s like a lot of things you take on in life. You have to experience it to understand. No one can do it for you.”

CBS: We’ve already spotted you out and about at the gym. Tell us about your postpartum workout routine.

HD: “I started doing Pilates and spin classes just like I did before Luca. Back to the routine!”

CBS: Are you hoping Luca will follow in your showbiz shoes, or maybe hit the skates like his dad?

HD: “There is no pressure from either of us. He will choose his own path and we will support what he is passionate about.”

CBS: How did you come up with the name Luca Cruz?

HD: “Mike and I were just bouncing names off each other, and Luca just stuck. We both knew when we heard it, it was unique but not crazy.”

CBS: What’s up next for you? A maternity leave, or will you be returning to work soon?

HD: “I am just enjoying being a mom. There is no pressure on me to get back to doing anything in particular, but I love to stay active and work as much as possible so it won’t be long. Time will tell…”
