So Corny!

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Apparently, Halloween isn’t the only reason to celebrate in October anymore. Today kicks off National Popcorn Month. No joke! There’s an entire month devoted to those tiny, enticing kernels. And Dale and Thomas just came up with the perfect way to celebrate: Free popcorn! You have to spring for the shipping and handling, but they’ll throw in two bags of Peanut Butter & White Chocolate DrizzleCorn, Chocolate Chunk N’Caramel, or other awesome gourmet flavors for free this month. Log on to their site by clicking here to pick out your favorites.

No Child In The Whole World Left Behind

Monday, September 24th, 2007

OnelaptopThe idea behind One Lap Top Per Child is so great that it practically makes me want to cry:

Our mission is to provide a means for learning, self-expression and exploration to the nearly two billion children of the developing world with little or no access to education. While children are by nature eager for knowledge, many countries have little resources to devote to education—sometimes less than $20 a year per child. Imagine the potential that could be unlocked by giving every child in the world the tools they need to learn, no matter who they are, no matter where they live, no matter how little they may have.

To help solve this incredible gap they’ve developed an almost indestructible and super cheap lap top that they hope to give to every child in the developing world. To kick things off, they’ll be offering a Give 1 Get 1 Program for a brief window of time. For $399, you will be purchasing two XO laptops—one that will be sent to empower a child to learn in a developing nation, and one that will be sent to your child at home. What an amazing Christmas present that would be! You can sign up right here.

This Post Is Brought to You by The Letter “A”

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

As in thanks to AJ at Thingamababy I found this Awesome blog called Secret Agent Josephine. Among the amazing this you’ll find if you go there is a set of Alphabet Cards she’s creating for her daughter—and for you—she’s generously made PDFs of each beautiful letter that you can download for free. Right now she’s up to the letter "I"

And she’s looking for suggestions for "J" Jump Rope? Jeans? Go over there and give her some ideas. And check out the letters she’s created so far! P.S. I hate the idea that there are all these great things going on that I don’t know about. So, I ask you goodyblog readers: If you have suggestions of great blogs I should be reading, writing about, or including in our "goody reads" can you leave them in the comments—and share them with the rest of us?

Goody Deals: Mom’s Day Discount

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Using slings to carry around your new baby or even toddler is crazy popular.  These slings from Sakura Bloom are really pretty—great, vibrant colors.  Plus, they’re all made from dupioni silk… and silk always feels good no matter how you wear it.  They’re a bit pricey—almost all $200 or more—but they are offering a 25% discount for Mother’s Day until May 12.  Just enter "celebrateMom" at checkout.  It’d be a nice splurge for any new mommas you know.

When You Dish Upon a Star

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

114636130_281b8ac24d_m_4 For all you contest lovin’ mamas (and papas), here’s a good one. Run, don’t walk, over to the Pyrex glassware Website to enter their Win a Dinner Party With Giada sweepstakes. That’s right, Food Network celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis will appear at a meal for you and 11 other guests as you dine on (or funnel in, depending on your table manners) a bounty of dishes crafted from her very own special recipes. Cooked, of course, in Pyrex glassware.

Here’s the one catch: Hope you’re not terribly hungry. The contest is running through the end of the calendar year, and the winner won’t be announced until about January 21, 2008. Hmmm. Guess that means I have eight months’ worth of light snacking ahead of me until the dinner winner’s announced!

Those not lucky enough to score the free grub are eligible to win $500 worth of Pyrex products, autographed copies of De Laurentiis’s cookbooks, or one of Pyrex’s Accents Collection Teardrop mixing bowls … apparently to catch the tears you’ve shed for not winning the grand prize and having to cook your own stinkin’ dinner.

Ooooh, while we’re on the subject, let’s play that game where if you can invite three famous people to your dinner party, who would they be? And since I’m making the rules, the famous people must all be alive. (That “dead or alive” option always creeped me out. Who wants a dead person over for dinner?) My picks: Justin McBride, Alison Krauss, and Bob Hoskins. Your turn!
