October is finally here! I wait for this month all year around. Our family’s annual pumpkin-picking trip is approaching, as are our haunted-house and corn-maze trips. We love our traditions. But after years of doing the same things, I wanted to try something new. So I brainstormed and asked around for unique Halloween traditions, and I couldn’t keep these ideas to myself. Here are the top 5 new Halloween traditions that my friends, family, and I have come up with:
1. Pumpkin Painting Party
Gather your crafty kids for an afternoon of pumpkin art. Mini pumpkins are perfect for little hands to paint, and your guests can take them home as favors.
It’s not too cold for the outdoors yet! Get the kids outside for Monsters University inspired Scare Games. Adult referees can dress in costume, and the kids can compete in potato sack races, tug-o-war, and hula hoop contests. Award candy bag prizes to the winners, and end the day at home with a big pot of pumpkin soup.
Get out your pumpkin pajamas for a halloween themed sleepover. Roast pumpkin seeds, make s’mores and swap scary stories deep into the night. Add to the fun with a Halloween craft like this adorable paper owl.
There isn’t a mom out there who doesn’t understand the importance of time. Between chauffeuring kids to school and running household errands, it’s a wonder you keep it all together.
Momtrepreneur Erin Condren aims to make scheduling your life a little easier and, dare I say, fun. Just two years after the birth of her twins, she founded her own custom stationery company, creating everything from her signature Life Planner to personalized iPhone cases. Now her site has become a go-to resource for busy parents wanting some organization with flair.
I recently had the chance to preview Erin’s fall collection; my three favorites are sure to shed stress from your routine AND let your family’s style shine.
Erin’s classic planner got a regal upgrade. Gold foil stamps dot the cover inside and out while a new elastic band holds everything in place. Along with her trademark colorful spreads, it’s a total score!
The straight edges of this lunch box and container assortment equal easy washing. Plus, the decorative faceplate doubles as an emergency card while your child’s at school (just fill out the personal info on the backside).
Erin’s motto is all about making more time for play in life. With these products in toe, there’s no reason you can’t start living a little yourself.
SAVINGS ALERT: Her new holiday card collection is half off for a limited time. Who says you can’t “’tis the season” early?
Autumn is a-coming! Prepare for its blustery days and chilly nights with these chic maternity clothes. They’ll help you stretch your pregnancy wardrobe — and they’re all currently available at a discount at Shop Parents.
For the past few years, it seems like all the major networks have been playing with the wacky-family formula to try to find the right mix for the next Modern Family. A dash of parental dysfunction here; a splash of kid snark there. This season, the main ingredient seems to be single moms. There’s at least one new series with a single-mom character in the lead on most channels this fall. Check out a few of the shows:
Fall is officially here and Halloween is right around the corner, which means it’s time for pumpkins! If your town is at risk of suffering from a pumpkin shortage this year, relax, we have you covered.
The ParentsCarve-A-Pumpkin iPhone and iPad app is ready to download — for free! — from iTunes. First, pick your pumpkin from a list of choices: traditional orange, eerie black, and more. The next step? Get creative! Draw a face on your pumpkin freehand or use a stencil. Once you’re happy with your Jack-o’-Lantern, you can easily share it with friends and family via Facebook, Twitter, and email.
