Eat Well, Do Good

New Home Page ImageIf you’re looking for a decadent treat to add to your Easter celebrations this weekend, click on over to Somebody’s Mother. Their better-than-homemade chocolate and caramel sauces add a sweet touch to any dessert. And while you’re over there, check out their current “Simple Things” campaign to benefit USA Cares, which provides financial and advocacy aid to 9/11 US military service personnel, veterans and their families. Your $5 donation will give you the chance to post a story about someone who has been important in your life–whether it’s your mother, teacher or childhood best friend. And how’s this for a do-good bonus? The entrants with the best stories will win $500 gift cards.

Good Deed Monday: My Fair-Trade Valentine

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Card.JPGI am a lover of holidays, especially the holiday of love. So it’s no surprise that in the years I was single I started my own Valentine’s Day tradition, sending messages to say “I love you,” to all the honeys in my life: both my grandmas, my sister, my best friend (living two cities away), you get the idea.

This year I’m happy to say I found the perfect Fair Trade Cards, made in Haiti by members of the sewing cooperative, Cooperative d’Artisanat. Not only are they gorgeous and hand-beaded but when you buy these or any Haitian product through eBay World of Good, 10% of the proceeds go to UNICEF.

Spread the love!

Monday, February 1st, 2010

3865908802_3cbc8cfa5fI’ve got another great way you can help in Haiti and help yourself make some extra space at home. One of our favorite kids’ clothing companies, Tiny Revolutionary is sending a donation of their tees to schools and orphanages and they’d love to include any gently used items you can spare.

Please send, this week, to:

Good Deed Monday: Help Your Kids Help Haiti

Monday, January 25th, 2010

kidsworldHappy Monday GoodyBloggers! Over the past week the amount of outreach and creativity that has gone into countless Haiti relief efforts got us thinking. Why wait til Friday to get our good deed’in on? Why not start strong on Monday and make a difference all week long? So, welcome to Good Deed Monday.

This week’s deed: Empower your kids to help in Haiti. Kids have empathy in spades and sometimes the only way to help them feel okay is the same way we do it–by acting. Need some ideas? Check out this truly awesome help Haiti site Nickelodeon launched, full of tips on what kids can do;  a list of organizations you can reach out to as a family (such as Kids Care Clubs); and message boards for kids to connect, discuss and share thoughts.
