Mother’s Day—it’s the one day a year that’s truly all about you and your little ones. Maybe you’re looking forward to a leisurely breakfast in bed or a cute card “signed” by Baby. But before you unwind and enjoy a well-deserved day of relaxation come May 11, consider giving back to mothers in less fortunate circumstances, too.
Boppy will celebrate the mama-centric holiday as well as its own 25th anniversary by donating 5 percent of all May profits from their feeding pillow to moms in need. Boppy is working alongside Nurse Family Partnership, who matches financially needy new moms—often teenagers—with public health nurses who assist them before Baby arrives and for the two years following the birth. This service has been intact for over three decades and has helped foster healthier pregnancies and safer home environments, and it has also positively impacted children’s education and their mothers’ employment status.
Taking part in this initiative means you’ll have a new Boppy for yourself or to gift to an expectant friend or relative. The Boppy pillow comes in lots of colors and patterns and helps keep Baby comfy while you nurse or bottlefeed. As your wee one grows, the pillow can help support her as she learns to sit.
Prefer to donate a concrete dollar amount? Give online here through Boppy’s partnership with Captivate.org (http://captivate.org/contests/nfp-explore-keystone) or use the link on Boppy’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TheBoppyCompany/app_1393201434248014) from now through May 11. Upon donating $10 or more, you’ll be entered to win a vacation to Keystone, Colorado for two. Pledge larger sums and you’ll be rewarded with a variety of Boppy products, detailed here: http://captivate.org/contests/nfp-explore-keystone/ Even if your own little one has outgrown such items, this is an excellent opportunity to stock up on baby shower gifts for pals who will soon be engaging in their own Mother’s Day celebrations!

Last month, for every Boppy pillow purchased at Babies R Us, The Boppy Company pledged to donate one of their nursing pillows to Nurse-Family partnerships agencies, which can distribute them to women in need. The Get One, Give One program led to more than $250,000 in donated Boppy pillows, exciting new since our American Baby readers consistently rank the pillow as one of the most-necesary baby products!
Are you nursing or planning to start? Leave a comment below and you could win one of two nursing sets from Boppy. Each set includes a $40 Boppy pillow and one of their $25 nursing covers. Here’s where you can read all of our official rules. Goody luck!
PS This year’s updated list of the products our readers deem most necessary when you have a baby will be in our October issue, so if you’re not already an American Baby subscriber, sign up! We’re making our list and checking it twice!
Read the official rules here.
Congratulations to our winners Caron Boggs and Autumn Hall!

All hail Queen Boppy! Ten times, when we’ve asked parents to tell us their most beloved baby products, the Boppy pillow has won the most votes, including in this year’s American Baby Bests contest. It makes sense; in those early, round-the-clock feeding months, you’re sort of permanently resting your nursing pillow on your lap, even if you’re bottlefeeding. It’s a comfy spot for a newborn, and saves your back and shoulders a lot of strain.
The new Boppy Heirloom pillows are going to win even more fans. They have a clever slideline built in, so you can keep track of what side you last used to feed your baby. There’s a soft, washable minky cover, and a matching burp cloth. They’re at Babies R Us for $50; a good registry item, if you ask me!
Or, of course, you could win a free one. To celebrate their 10th best-pick-for-baby win, our friends at Boppy will give away five of the new Boppy Heirlooms. Just leave a comment below, up to once a day between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, October 3rd. Maybe tell us if you ever heard of a Boppy before you were pregnant! And check back on the 4th to see our next Bests-Awards-themed giveaway. See the official rules here. Goody luck!

Breastfeeding is something you both have to learn; Mom and Baby. It’s rarely simple for a first-timers. But once you both get it, you can go on autopilot. I try to encourage pregnant women to have all kinds of tools for those first few weeks: A lactation consultant on-call, a comfy nursing bra you can wear all day and night, and a designated spot to sit where you can keep water to drink and have something to relax your mind, whether it’s the TV or a magazine or your smartphone to scroll through Facebook. Also you need a nursing pillow, which saves you from hunching over in a back-aching position while your newborn nurses every two hours around the clock. A nursing pillow makes everything nice and comfy for your baby, too!
Our readers seem to agree; for years now, in our Bests for Baby contest, the Boppy pillow has gotten the most votes as a new-mom must-have. It’s what I used; in fact, I think I had one on each floor of the house! The C-shape fits plenty of bodies and makes for a baby-propping support later on, when you’re helping your child learn to sit up.
There are a few new pillows on the market now too. Simplisse launched the Gia, which is more of a raindrop or a comma shape. It holds your baby at a slight incline, which could help with reflux, and provides lots of extra cushioning for his or her head. The cotton cover is anti-bacterial and removable. Seems smart!
And finally, this week we met the Mombo, a new U-shaped nursing pillow from Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony line. It’s more fitted to your body, so it stays in place. One side is firm, if your baby likes the support; flip it over for a softer side, if your baby prefers to lay on that. It comes with an optional vibration unit, too, to give your baby a little massage!
I’d love to know what you used to make breastfeeding easier. And please, join our community and post on the Baby Bests discussion boards, here. Spout off on all your favorite products: what you buy for friends’ baby showers, what little thing under $10 turned out to be a lifesaver, all that good stuff.
Finally if you leave a comment here at this blog, you’re eligible to win the Gia (worth $40) one of two Mombos (also worth $40 each), a Boppy ($40) or a Travel Boppy ($45). You have between now and the end of the day on Thursday, February 9th, to enter. You can read the full rules here. Goody luck!
