By now, you probably already know that Beyoncé gave birth to a baby girl, Blue Ivy, with husband Jay-Z this weekend. There have been numerous reports about the celebrity couple’s experience at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and the hospital is being accused of providing the famous duo with special treatment at the expense of other patients. In an article in the New York Times, one father, Edgar Ramirez, says security guards for the star kept him from seeing his wife and newborn for three hours.
But Lenox Hill Hospital has released an official statement in response to the criticism:
“The family does have its own security detail on site. However, the hospital has been and continues to be in control of managing all security at the facility. We have made every effort to ensure minimal disruption to other families experiencing the births of their own children over the past three days. No security plan that we or the Carters’ security team put in place would have prevented or delayed families from gaining access to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and to date, no families have complained to the hospital about being denied access to the NICU.”
There has been a lot of media attention surrounding Beyoncé’s pregnancy (from us, too), but we sincerely hope other parents didn’t suffer because of the singer’s celebrity. Baby Blue may have already gotten her own blog post, but we believe all babies — famous parents or not — deserve the same, wonderful treatment.
