As a follow-up to Tracy's pedicure post, I have to mention that the sunny spring shads of e.l.f.'s nailpolishes are now available. After you buff and beautify your tootsies, slick on a coat of one of these gorgeous nail colors. I love that they're paraben, preservative and chemical-free, while also infused with Vitamin E for stronger, healthier nails. The quick-fry formula is perfect for moms whose primp time is limited. But the best part? They're a buck a pop!

We're guessing pretty old. And while using gloss that's past its prime
isn't going to kill you, it's still a good idea to replace it every
nine months or so. (All that opening and closing can cause bacteria to
get trapped inside.) But really, how can you be expected to remember
when you bought your lip gloss? With this dilemma in mind, makeup
company Cargo has just added Timestrip technology to its Classic Lip
Gloss (in the tube form). When you're ready to open the gloss for the
first time, simply press the Timestrip label down into the cap to
activate it. After nine months, the entire window on the cap will turn
red, signaling to you it's time to toss your gloss. How cool is that?
Sort of gives new meaning to the phrase "time in a bottle." Available for $22 at Sephora.com.

I came across this story on Mom Logic today about whether or not chemical hair straightening is okay for an 8-year-old. I don't think I even brushed my hair at that age, so to me this seems just absurd. But the age to start primping keeps getting younger and younger, so maybe I shouldn't be too shocked.
What do you guys think? Is it safe- and even sane- to let young girls go to such lengths to change their appearance?

I’m sure you’ve noticed the gradual makeover CVS has been giving to its beauty aisles over the past few years. Now the company is taking things a step further by launching Beauty 360, separate stores located right next to the pharmacy that sell prestige cosmetic and skincare brands like Paula Dorf, Dr. Brandt, and Clarins Fragrance, just to name a few. On top of that, Beauty 360 stores will be staffed with trained and licensed professionals offering services like mini manicures,
express facials, hand massages and makeup application. Talk about convenient! And if you’re a CVS ExtraCare member, you can save on your purchases at the beauty store just like you can in the pharmacy. The first Beauty 360 store opened in Washington, D.C. earlier this month, and the second will open in December in Mission Viejo, CA. Be on the lookout for a store near you in early 2009.

For an upcoming article in the magazine, we’d like moms to tell us
about the fashion or beauty products that make them feel sexy and why.
Is it a certain lacy bra or shade of red lipstick? Leave a comment here, or e-mail a description of your sexy
secret weapons along with a recent headshot to tracy.perez@meredith.com.

I had the pleasure of working with Nick Arrojo from TLC’s What Not to Wear and his talented team of stylists on a beauty story that appeared in our March 2008 issue ("The New Mommy Haircut"). In it, Nick gave suggestions for three haircuts that are low on maintenance, high on style. Now he’s compiled all of his fabulous tips into a book, Great Hair. The goal is to help women better understand how their hair type, face shape and lifestyle are all factors when it comes to finding the perfect cut. Tell us, are you thinking about making a change to your hair for the fall?

Check out this adorable animal-shaped soap set, a new addition to the Mom & Baby skincare collection from L’Occitane. The soap’s main ingredient, shea butter, is gentle enough for your baby’s skin, yet nourishing enough to make yours feel super-soft. No alcohol or parabens here, either. And while you’re having some bathtime fun with your baby, you’ll also be helping others. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from sales of this product will be donated to charities working to prevent avoidable blindness throughout the world.

Halloween may be weeks away still, but, like all holidays, it’ll be over before you know it, leaving in its wake discarded candy wrappers and bellyaches. Between putting together your kid’s costume, baking pies for the class party, having your kid change his mind about his costume, making another costume, pumpkin carving, stocking up on trick-or-treat candy before it flies off the shelves, and making sure your child doesn’t put himself into a sugar-induced coma (phew!), the closest you’ll probably get to a "Happy Halloween" is that Pumpkin Latte you’re chugging to stay awake! Which is why I was psyched to see that Philosophy has a Halloween-inspired body wash trio. Even if October 31st flies by quicker than Casper, at least you can get in the spirit every morning with these spooktacular suds! I took a whiff of these last time I was at Sephora and four words: good enough to eat.
