One of my favorite books to read my kids is The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which gets sillier and sillier as the character eats more and more. (He finally feels better when he settles down, stops eating cake, and nibbles a green leaf. There is probably a message I should heed in there!)
In our February issue of American Baby, we show an adorable new line of rompers and playclothes based on Eric Carle’s books, The Very Hungry Caterpiller included. It’s fun to dress your little character in clothes that are covered with his or her favorite characters! Each romper is $37 and you can check Jaxxwear.com for stores.
And this week, Jaxxwear is offering TWO lucky winners each two shortalls from the Eric Carle collection as well as two of the author’s popular books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Each prize is worth about $113.
To enter, leave a comment below, up to one a day between today and the end of the day February 5. More Qs about our giveaway? Read the official rules. Be sure to check back on February 6 and scroll to the bottom of the post to see who won. We reach out to winners via Facebook message (it goes into your “other” message folder on Facebook), so if you win, look for us there as well. Goody luck!
Also, if you’re just looking for more great reads, check out this list of best board books for babies.
And if your own hungry little caterpillar is eating through everything, but you have concerns about allergies, watch this excellent video!
Congrats to our winners Felicia Pasko-Smith and Becky Wood!

Very good things come from Vermont. Cheese (which I craved like a crazy person when I was pregnant) and Zutano’s cute cotton clothes (which I dressed both of my babies up in) are two of the things that come to mind. That’s my new niece, below, sporting a Zutano dress at only one month old! She’s a little one, and I love that Zutano has tiny newborn sizes, and even tinier preemie sizes if you’ve got an early bird.
We can give away both cheese and cute clothes this week, because the Vermont Creamery reached out to use about their Kids & Kids campaign, which is all about goat cheese…it is less allergenic than cow’s milk, which is why some toddlers are given goat’s milk instead of cow’s milk to drink. And tots may also respond better to goat cheese than some cow’s-milk cheeses. Get it? Kids (human) and kids (of the goat kind) go together. Read Dr. Alan Greene’s take on goat milk for more info!
Leave a comment below, up to one a day between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, July 24th, and you have the chance to win a $75 Zutano gift card to buy your little one some adorable outfits. And once your baby’s all dressed up in the new gear, you can go on a picnic with a Vermont Creamery Gift Basket. The basket includes six flavored goat cheeses, a “In a Cheesemaker’s Kitchen” Cookbook and a Vermont Creamery cooler bag. The whole shebang is worth $150!
Here is where you can read the official rules. Goody luck!
Congratulations to our winner Doris Blouin!

I’m still in school-shopping mode, which brings me, literally, to The Children’s Place. I see their collections all the time for the magazine because they have plenty for babies. (My favorite recommendation: awesome, long-enough pajamas.) I go there personally, too, for my bigger kids, because their clothes are so affordable. If you’re a bargain-hunter, which I definitely drift toward, you can get some real steals. When you make a purchase in one of their stores, give them your email address. Trust me, you get coupons for up to 25 percent off. Use the coupons on a sale day and you’re set.
For instance: That’s me holding a shopping bag with three shirts, three pairs of undies, three pairs of socks, two pairs of tights, a pair of leggings and a pair of pants for Grace, along with a kitty necklace I bought for her on a whim and a new purple lunchbox that she really needs, as well as a hooded cardigan, a pair of socks and two button-up shirts for Joe. I brought my 25 percent off coupon and got the entire haul for about $85. Crazy!
I did walk past the baby clothes, and I so want a niece or nephew in my life so I could buy them one of these amazing animal bodysuits. Shhh don’t tell my brother and his new wife, I’m trying not to pressure them!
But enough about me. What about you? Where do you love to shop for your kids or baby-to-be, and what kind of stuff are you looking for? The Children’s Place is donating one $100 giftcard, so leave a comment below, up to once a day between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, August 29th. We’ll pick one comment at random and The Children’s Place will mail the giftcard to the lucky winner. To read the full rules, click here. Goody luck!

Babies don’t go back to school, but that doesn’t mean your tiny person couldn’t use some new fall clothes. Since I’m clothes-shopping for my biggies this month, I have the itch to blog about brands I’ve loved since they were small, starting with Mini Boden. It’s a Web site and a catalog out of England, run by Johnnie Boden, a dad.
Their stuff isn’t the cheapest, but it is very well-made. I’d compare it to Gap quality. It’s got a British design flair, with a lot of sweet plaids, darling appliques, and pretty trims. A pack of five different, thick, long-sleeved bodysuits like the ones shown here is $46. If you sign up for their emails, you’ll get a free-shipping offer what seems like every few weeks, which saves you a $10 charge.
PS although it’s much more fun to buy baby clothes, you should know that Boden also makes maternity clothes. We use their $34 leggings in a lot of our maternity fashion shoots. They’re soft and silky and I’m not too ashamed to say that maybe, just maybe, some of us wear them when we aren’t pregnant too.
Whether you need baby clothes, maternity clothes, big-kid clothes or something for your guy, I think you’d be happy with anything from Boden. To make it easier, I’ve begged the Boden folks to give one fortunate poster a $100 giftcard. (You’re welcome!) Leave a comment, up to one a day, anytime from now until the end of the day on Wednesday, August 15th. We’ll randomly pick one post for the $100 giftcard. You can read the full rules here. Goody luck!
