Each year we ask you what baby gear you love best. This year some 58,000 of you voted, and your favorite products have received the coveted American Baby Bests Award. There are 18 products on this year’s list, from the small (Sophie the Giraffe is your favorite little lifesaver) to the large (Graco’s travel system covers both your stroller and car-seat needs).
Fisher-Price often has a couple of winners, and this year was no exception. Both their bouncer seat (see it on the Today Show along with other winners!) and their Jumperoo won. You need safe, entertaining places to sit your baby for a minute; these two products are the key to making a meal, taking a shower, and getting dressed in the first six months.
I used to call our Jumperoo “the office” as in, “He’s going into the office now,” because our son looked so busy while he was in there! Did it take up a fair amount of our living room? Yes. Did we care? No, because I am not sure how we would have, for instance, gotten our older child dressed without it. And he loved being in there!
In fact, that’s the difference I see in our reader comments between the bouncer and the Jumperoo. The bouncer is for an infant, and so it’s all about how much it saves the mom’s day. But the Jumperoo is more about the baby; most readers write about the smiles they see when their baby is in the playspot.
If you’re in the market for a Jumperoo, Fisher-Price has paired with Babies R Us to offer 20 percent off the Go Wild Jumperoo from today until Thursday, October 24th, in honor of our American Baby Bests Awards. It’s $104 instead of $130 for the next few weeks; take that $26 savings while you can! Have a Goody weekend…

I might be obsessed with baby feet. Especially my own kids’ feet. I had a friend once exclaim “ew!” when she watched my son put his feet up by my face, but I assured her that it’s entirely different if they are tiny feet and, what’s more, feet you managed to make yourself! They are delicious. Not that I bite my kids’ feet (often).
What are also adorable are the baby shoes that are for such tiny feet, they barely look like shoes at all, but more like leather socks. Robeez are a prime example. Because they don’t need laces or straps and all that, they can be decorated in what seems like a bazillion variations. We have the star ones, below, coming out later this spring, sitting in our office right now.
Infants don’t, strictly speaking, need shoes, but they do help keep their feet warm. If your baby is up and cruising, he’ll do best barefoot, but if you need to protect his tootsies, something flexible like Robeez are best. And yay: Robeez is giving away five pairs of shoes! Leave a comment below, up to one a day, to be eligible to win. (If you win, we’ll ask you for your baby’s age before we send a pair.) You can comment each day between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, January 16th. If you have a funny story about your baby trying to learn to walk, I’d love to hear it! If you’re still pregnant or have a newborn, tell me what baby products are on your radar…I would love to hear that too. Read all the official rules here. Goody luck!
PS If you’re shoe-shopping for a baby who is fully walking, I love this video, explaining what to look for in a pair of “real” shoes!

Happy New Year! We’ll help you get off to a happy start by giving away 11 new baby books for your child’s library. I feel like I can never have enough books for my two kids; they want a story (or two, or three) a night and it gets tough being the narrator if you have to keep going over the same tales.
We like to compare favorite books here in the office. Our executive editor tipped me off to Little Fur Family, which is by the classic children’s author Margaret Wise Brown. She wrote Goodnight Moon and one of my other favorites, Big Red Barn. Her books are sweet and poetic and make you want to drift off alongside your baby! But the book that became my goodnight song to my kids is If You Were My Bunny. My 10- and 7-year-old still go to sleep only after I recite the whole thing in song!
The eleven books we’re giving away are all new, recent titles, and include both board books and paper pages. Maybe one will become a favorite! In total they’re worth about $110. To be entered to win, leave a comment below between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, January 9. For the full rules, read here. Goody luck!

How did it get to be November already? It doesn’t matter, November is here, and the countdown to the holidays is on. (Quite literally; check out our 100 Days of Holidays for so very many cute ideas.) We’re showing this personalized book in our December issue, but I wanted to write about it here, too, while you’ve got plenty of time to order.
I’ve seen a lot of goofy personalized books, but the ones from I See Me are gorgeous. Truly! The illustrations, especially in this Very Merry Christmas book, are so sweet. The story incorporates your child’s name seamlessly, so the book really becomes about him or her. And at $30, it’s a great deal.
The most popular I See Me book for new babies is My Very Own Name, which shows animals building a new baby’s name letter by letter. It’s sold hundreds of thousands of copies, has celebrity fans such as Courteney Cox, and is now a $5 iPad app. But I still love the $33 book, which is keepsake-worthy.
Read more about their books by liking the I See Me Facebook page. (If that link doesn’t work, simply search for “I See Me” on Facebook and their page should pop up.) To kick off the gift-buying season, the owners of I See Me will give one lucky person 10 gift certificates, each certificate good for the cost of one book including shipping, for a prize worth $409! You could make some books for your own baby, and use the rest as gifts. To be eligible, leave a comment below. I’d love for you to tell me your baby’s name! (We’re a little name obsessed over here, we even have a baby-name blog.) You can comment up to once a day between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, November 7th. The official rules are here. Goody luck!

Since they won the coveted title of favorite baby carrier in our American Baby Bests Awards, I looked forward to seeing the BabyBjörn folks this past week at the ABC trade show, a big industry event held this year in Louisville, KY. It’s always a treat to see all the colors and variations of the BabyBjörn in one place! Their new-for-2013 colors are shown here, raspberry and light blue.
Three things you may not know about BabyBjörn carriers: One, they’re named after their founder, Björn Jakobson, whose first product invention was a bouncer seat. (He moved on from there to baby carriers, which won him a lot more fame.) Two, Björn’s wife, Lillemor, is still the head designer. She and her husband have been running their company for more than 50 years now, so they are no spring chickens, but they’re as spirited as ever. (Check out this video fashion show about the history.) And finally, the BabyBjörn fabrics are Oeko-Tex certified, which is basically the European standard for “green.”
They’ll give away two of the brand-new BabyBjörn Original carriers, worth $80 and shown above. To be eligible, leave a comment below. (Note: Your comment may not show up right away, don’t panic!) Tell us where you wear your baby, or, if you’re pregnant, what you see yourself doing with the carrier. You can leave up to one comment a day, today through Wednesday, October 24. The official rules are all here. Goody luck!

To continue our parade of giveaways tied to our American Baby Bests Awards, I’d like to present this year’s totally new category…the babyfood maker! We know that making purees for new eaters is hugely popular right now. Though there are some fancy, much-loved appliances that can both steam and smash food, our readers say their favorite tool is the more affordable Baby Bullet, which is ready to turn anything you’ve already cooked to mush.
Why use this instead of your home blender? It’s sized right for baby portions, for one thing, and also comes with babyfood-storage containers plus a refrigerator tray and freezer tray. When you order the Baby Bullet you also get a guide to feeding your baby and some ideas of what to puree. (We also list some fairly sophisticated and fun to try babyfood recipes on Parents.com.)
In short, our readers say it’s worth the $60 investment. But hold tight! Leave a comment here and you could be one of two people to win a Baby Bullet, courtesy of the Baby Bullet team. If your baby is already on solids, tell us what he or she likes best. If babyfood-making is in your future, tell us what you’re eager to try. (I for one had a disaster trying to feed my daughter home-pureed carrots and never went back, but now I regret not experimenting with some other recipes before I abandoned hope!) You can leave up to one comment a day between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, October 17th. The official rules are here. Goody luck!

It’s always exciting when a new player drops into our annual American Baby Bests awards. This year, we have a new favorite in the all-important stroller category: Chicco. Their Cortina wins lots of praise from parents, because it’s got a plush seat, is easy to push, simple to fold, and is thank-goodness affordable (under $200). The reviews on BabiesRUs.com mirror what our readers tell us, which is that the strollers are durable and appropriate for the littlest cuties.
Chicco’s car seat, the Keyfit, also sneaks up the ranking in our poll each year. I want to mention it in this post because Chicco shared a really useful car-seat infographic with us this week. It’s an at-a-glace look at what age you should have your child in each kind of car seat. Hope you find it useful!
What do you find most challenging in your search for the perfect car seat and stroller? Leave a comment here, up to one a day between now and the end of Thursday, October 11. We’ll randomly pick one commenter to win the Chicco Cortina Travel System, which gets you the award-winning stroller as well as the KeyFit car seat that snaps right on top. The total value of this prize is $350! Whoo-hoo! See the official rules here. And as always, Goody Luck!

Welcome to the first of about a month of weekly giveaways tied to our 2012 American Baby Bests Awards! Each year we ask parents on this Web site, and on the American Baby Facebook page, what products they can’t live without. We tally up their votes and run extra polls and come up with 20 award-winners.
I’ve been doing this contest for a dozen years now, and I can tell you, there are some products that just always win. The Graco SnugRide is one of those. This year we tried to poll exactly how many parents are using this gold-standard infant seat, and the number we got is 38 percent. That means that about four out of ten cars traveling around with an infant onboard have a SnugRide in the back seat. (I wouldn’t be surprised if the actual number is even a little higher!)
The BIG news from Graco is that the SnugRide is now…bigger. They just released the Snugride 40, which can keep your baby rear-facing up to age 2, the age now recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Moms tell us they love Snugride seats because they fit an infant so well (babies don’t look “lost” in one), and it’s also easy to click them in and out of the car-seat base. The car seats also fit onto most strollers, making transporting your baby really easy.
As part of their rollout of the new car seat (full name: SnugRide Click Connect 40), and in celebration of their Bests Award win, Graco is letting us give two seats away! Each car seat is worth about $220, so be sure to leave a comment below, up to one a day, to be eligible. You can leave a daily comment between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, September 26th. We’ll randomly pick a winner on or about September 27th. Read the official rules here.
Check back next Thursday (and the Thursday after that!) for more Bests giveaways! Here I am on the Today Show talking about a few of the winners. I promise I’ll be giving away more of the items you see on this segment. Goody luck!
