American Baby’s Baby Booty: Win one of five $100 Gift Cards from RetailMeNot.com
Saving money is always a New Year’s resolution, especially on the heels of buying all those presents. This Christmas season I finally got in the habit of searching for coupons before I went through an online checkout. The largest (and, in my experience, easiest) coupon site to use is RetailMeNot.com, and coincidentally, just before the holiday, I got to talk to Trae Bodge, Senior Editor of The RetailMeNot Insider. 
“People want coupons across the board for everything,” she told me. If you’re a new mom, that means you want to cut the cost of the things you run through, such as diapers and formula, but also the stuff you hang on to, like strollers and car seats. I asked if it’s better to look for a percent-off coupon, or free shipping; Bodge says that it’s best for folks to quickly do the math in their head to determine what’s the better deal. “Last year free shipping was king, but this year a percent off seems slightly more attractive,” Bodge says. She sees parents working the system by, say, using a percent-off coupon for BabiesRUs.com, but then choosing the in-store pickup option, so there’s no shipping fee either.
I am no couponista, but I am learning. Bodge tipped me off that there’s a RetailMeNot app which, if you open it in the parking lot of your local mall, will download all the coupons that are good for the stores inside. The salespeople can then swipe a coupon code off your phone, or type it in manually.
While I had her on the phone, I of course had to ask about baby registries, since that’s my thing. Her advice mirrors mine, when it comes to making up your own registry: Beg an experienced mom-friend to do it with you. “Confer before you finalize your registry!” Bodge says. Use a store that has a registry checklist, but ask your mom-friend to weigh in on what’s a necessity and what’s just an extra.

Online you can find a variety of items for purchase rather than be limited to what your local stores carry. Sometimes its even cheaper to buy online as you get a better price and often once you reach a certain price you get free shipping. I love shopping for baby carriers, the perfect breastfeeding bottles and pacifiers, cute clothes, and strollers and highchairs.

I love ordering winter clothes…especially hats with the chin clasps from gymboree. They also have these fun bubbles that my 5 mth old loves to play with. Definately not the 99 cent bubbles. Some stores will even price match their own websites, so it is a good idea to check that and bring a print out before you head to the brick and mortar.

I love online shopping for everything. I work so many hours and when I’m off the stores are not always open.The convenience and the opportunity to find exactly what you’re wanting without going to so many different stores is nice.
I have also noticed how many patients use online shopping in the hospital.It’s that connection with the outside world that can be important to recovery.
