American Baby’s Baby Booty: Win $100 to Dress Baby for Halloween

A friend and I talk often about how Halloween has turned into the most fabulous holiday. It’s not loaded with the traditions and expectations of a religious holiday. No one expects you to cook, like you do on Thanksgiving, or travel, like people often do for the Fourth of July. You walk around in your own neighborhood, and eat a lot of candy! You have fun with your kids, and very rarely have to deal with coordinating visiting relatives.

Halloween gets really superb when you have a little munchkin to dress up. Whether you go to a party with your baby or walk in your town’s Halloween parade or just sit on your porch and hand out candy, it is SO much fun to have a Halloween sidekick.

My favorite costumes come from Chasing-Fireflies.com. Their catalog, Wishcraft, comes out in the summer and always gets my kids thinking about how they want to dress on October 31. (I think Grace is going for a fortune teller this year, and Joe changes his mind every other day.) We feel like we have to step things up in the costume department, because our neighborhood takes the Halloween-dress thing pretty seriously. You can see an amazing slideshow of kids in costumes from my part of Brooklyn; it might give you some good ideas! We decorate our house, too. Nothing fancy, but you can see Grace likes to cover the front with cobwebs.

Browse Chasing-Fireflies.com and you’ll see a lot of decorations, too. And here’s the giveaway news: Chasing Fireflies will give one person a $100 giftcard, which should help you afford outfits for two kids, or one outfit and some decorations, you get the idea. To be eligible, leave a comment (up to one a day) between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, September 19. Tell me what your child is likely to be for Halloween this year, and whether you prefer to buy or make a costume. We’ll pick one winner at random to get the $100 giftcard. You can read the official rules here. Goody luck!

We made little Zella’s Halloween costume the year before last. She was Sally Stitches from Nightmare Before Christmas. Since we made it, and it still fit her, she ended up being Sally again last year being the same character two years in a row! So this year, I told Zella that she could be absolutely anything that she wanted to be this year!

We’re fans of Chasing – Fireflies. We’ve ordered our costumes from them for the past three years. They’re always a hit. We make sure to plan ahead, save $, so we can order from them. They might be expensive but I believe in quality and in memories. I’ve saved all their costumes and stored them so that they can be well preserved so they can eventually be passed on to our future grandkids. We look foward to Halloween. Good luck to everyone who enters. This is a great company.

I am not sure what my oldest daughter or baby will be for Halloween this year. My middle daughter will either be a fair or a witch, by wearing one of her sisters old costumes. Last year our oldest wanted the unicorn or fiesta dancer from Chasing Fireflies but we just didn’t have the extra money to purchase

My daughter wants to be an indian, statue of liberty, and a sailor. She needs many costume for her all her events. One for a class party, one for her Irish dance compition (which needs to show off her legs) and one for trick or treating. She has picked these three costumes from you catalog. $100.00 would really help me afford this many costumes.

My husband and I were married on Halloween, so that alone should prove we are huge fans of the holiday. And this year we have a 9 week old to dress to the nines too! We chose the classic ghost costume to start, a butterfly outfit, and I am making her a Princess Leia outfit on top of it. I have already planned my attack and we are getting Ghost pictures at the pumpkin patch. The butterfly costume will be for handing out candy, and the Princess Leia will be for the Halloween get-together we are going to. My friend had a son only 9 days before me and is dressing him as Luke Skywalker, so this will be a hoot. I can’t wait!

I haven’t attempted to make a costume for my daughter since she wanted to be “cowgirl Dora” when she was 5. I can’t sew and am not very crafty, so I vowed never to do that to her again. Ha! Last year, she wanted to be Warrior Girl from Chasing Fireflies. I kept waiting to order when I had the extra money and it sold out before I did. I’m hoping to be able to get that costume for her this year! :) I still have the horrible memory of my Mom buying me a mask from the drugstore and making me be Papa Smurf when I was 6 or 7, so finding the perfect, fun costume for my little girl is something I like to do.

We love Halloween!!!! My daughter also does Pageants so we have made and purchased many “Costumes” for her pageants too!!!!

This will be our first halloween as parents, and I have to say, we’re excited about dressing up our now 8 month old daughter, Chloe! I’ve had ideas running around in my head for a week or so now..thinking of all the cute things I could dress her as! I hadn’t thought of making her own costume, but that would be fun to try! Maybe we’ll go with a cute pony, since she loves ours at the farm, or a little cupcake? Too much to choose from!

We were thinking a family theme since this is our little mans first Halloween trick or treating! Either jack, Sally and zero from nightmare before Xmas or mowgli, baloo and bagheera from the jungle book. I am crafty (and frugal) so I usually make. But those costumes are amazing and we would love one of those!

Last year, my daughter was a ham and cheese sandwich. I made it using construction paper, foamboard, ribbon, and a hot glue gun. I even made her a pickle chip hat! She won first place in our town’s costume contest; I was so proud because I have ZERO sewing skills, lol! This year, though, I’ll be put to the test: she has requested an orange tabby cat costume. I have a five-month-old little boy, and she wants him to be a grey mouse for her sidekick. I prefer to make costumes, since that means your imagination is the limit. But in a time (or talent!) crunch, a store bought costume works well enough for me! :)

My son will be a year old, so I’d like the crab one for him, plus his name is Sebastian, like the crab in the Little Mermaid.

All he’ll need is a vest and hard hat, and he can wear the bulldozer rain boots I’ve previously purchased from Chasing Fireflies :) I guess we technically buy the costumes, but we piece them together from other items!

My son is going to be a tiger — we have always gotten his costumes from Old Navy as they are soft, comfy and inexpensive! His first year, he was the cheeseburger and last year he was a one-eyed monster. This year I ordered the tiger and the shark and he chose the tiger — kills me as my college’s biggest rival had a tiger mascot, but he will look cute! I wish I had the time and creativity to make his costumes, and barring that, I wish I had the budget to buy from Chasing Fireflies, so we’d love to win this prize!

My 5 yr old is going to be Dr Frankenstein, his dad Frankenstein’s Monster, and I will be The Bride. I’m making all 3 costumes. I prefer to make the costumes if I can, because I know he will eventually want store-bought ones like his friends when he gets older. His previous costumes: 1st Halloween (almost 3 mo old at the time) – Jack O’Lantern (store-bought), 2nd Halloween – Mummy (made), 3rd Halloween – Robin Hood: Men In Tights (made), 4th Halloween – Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon – (store-bought), 5th Halloween – Scarecrow (made) then this year’s costumes mentioned above.
We would definitely use the gift card for purchasing decorations! We LOVE to decorate for Halloween and just moved to a new house so plenty more room to decorate :)
