American Baby’s Baby Booty: Get Scrappy!
Did your mother fill out a baby book for you? You know, with a lock of your hair and a description of your “firsts” and all that good stuff? My mom did…and so did Nancy O’Dell’s, as I learned recently. Nancy O’Dell, aside from co-anchoring Entertainment Tonight, is a rabid scrapbooker herself. She’s not faking her love of putting memory books together; she’s been to our offices several times and I’ve seen what she makes and listened to her talk passionately about creating recipe books, photo albums, and so on. Many of them revolve around her young daughter, Ashby. But the sweetest thing I ever heard her describe is her own baby book—I mean, the one her mom made of baby Nancy—and how that inspired the “My Baby Story” book she currently sells via her Creative Memories line.
There are modern baby books out there, and I even received an email about an electronic baby book, but Nancy wanted to imitate the sweetly old-fashioned look of the one her mom filled out. Her “My Baby Story” album has that amazing vintage look, with a soft, thick cover and intricate little illustrations. I wish it had been around for my two kids. (Though I like their’s too; they each have a book from Rag & Bone Bindery. The price is the same or more as Nancy’s but it’s a smaller size.)
Nancy told me that looking at her own baby book makes her aware of how much her mother loved her, right from the start. She says she wants the same thing for Ashby: An album that is concrete proof that she was adored and celebrated. Of course, we’re all busy these days, and finding time to fill out a baby book can seem like a stretch, so Nancy’s made her book more or less a fill-in-the-blanks project. She gives you prompts, and you write in your own baby’s story. If you’re up to it, you can add a lot of personal touches. Nancy promises that by taking a few evenings during your baby’s first year, you’ll be able to fill an album that your child will cherish for the rest of his or her life.
So, on that sweet note, leave a comment at the end of this post to be eligible to be one of three people who will receive a Baby Bundle package courtesy of Nancy O’Dell and Creative Memories. The bundle includes the gorgeous 12-inch x 12-inch baby album shown above, 32 large-pocked pages, fill-in-the-blank inserts, two pages of pockets you can use to hold keepsakes, diecut embellishments that will inspire you to get creative, an optional adoption-themed page, and instructions, all worth $65. (But if you don’t win: Start a baby book anyway!) You have through Thursday, January 19th to enter by posting no more than once a day. Read the full rules here. Goody luck!Add a Comment
