American Baby’s Baby Booty: (Sweet)Peace in the New Year!

Graco's SweetPeace

I may be a little obsessed with places to sit a baby. Last week I sang the praises of the Baby Bjorn Babysitter; this week, I’m on to the Graco SweetPeace. Let me unleash my baby-gear geekdom for a minute! Graco invented the baby swing way-back-when; it was inspired by a mom who soothed her baby while sitting on a glider swing in her backyard. (You can read the story here, along with a fact I love: That the son of the swing inventor dreamed up the Pack ‘n Play!) Baby swings have been tweaked over the years and made better; now the popular Fisher-Price cradle swings win one of our readers’-choice awards, the American Baby Bests, every year.

So what is the SweetPeace? It’s a fairly advanced soothing device for that first difficult half-year. Unlike any regular baby swing, the seat is superadjustable: You can recline it, or move it to face a different direction. You can even take the seat off and put in a Graco car seat if your baby prefers to sit in that. It comes with plenty of sounds, even white noise, but if you or your baby doesn’t like them, you can plug in your MP3 player and play anything you want. Oh and you can plug in the whole SweetPeace; you don’t have to run it on batteries. And of course you can set different swinging speeds.

The SweetPeace didn’t exist when my babies were tiny, so I’m sort of jealous of parents who have it now. It’s a swing, but maybe better than a swing, because it more closely mimics a parent’s natural rocking motion. It’s almost a whole new category of baby gear. It costs about $180, but I’m able to give one away here, thanks to Graco! So post a comment; how about you tell us what helps to calm your baby, if you’re a new parent? And if you’re pregnant, tell me where you’re making your baby registry (because I’m currently working on the mother of all registry guides). One lucky poster will win the SweetPeace; the full rules are here. You have through Wednesday, January 4th to comment. Goody luck!

My daughter likes to be in a sling pretty much at all times. I would love to win something like this so I can put her down and get stuff done around the house.

I totally agree on the Amazon registry. Plus you also have a chance to win your entire registry when you create one on Amazon. This onealso worked out best for me because I have a lot of family who live out of town. They could just order and ship it right to me. Plus Amazon is wonderful with returns. I had quite a few.

    Much luck with your registry!!

My first baby boy LOVED the little vibrating seats! What a life saver! I LOVE that the sweetpeace swing includes this feature in it (therefor needing one less baby item taking up room) and swings side to side rather than back and forth! How could a baby NOT love this!!! I’d LOVE to get one for my new little guy on the way (due any day now!) :)

My son was pretty easy going, and didnt require much soothing. He did LOVE his swing though, and we were sad when he outgrew it(that meant he was becoming a big boy!) My cousin just found out that she she is having triplet boys (naturally occurring!) and i think shell need a few miracles like this swing!

I am pregnant with my second child, He is due in April :D . I wish there were things like this when my daughter was a baby 8 years ago, sure would’ve made getting things done A LOT easier lol. I did not even have a swing for her, but I’ve heard they can be life savers for busy mommies.

I am registered at Walmart , Babies ‘R Us, Target and Amazon. Although I’ve had a ton of problems with the information that uploaded on Babies R Us and Target’s websites, which is a BIG Bummer since all my family and friends are out of state and would need to have any items purchased from my registry shipped directly to me. Babies R us even put 16 items on my registry that were Girl apparel, which totally confused all the people who weren’t sure what I was having. I’d recommend People double check their registries frequently!!!

I’d live to win this Amazing …uh… swing/rocker/baby soother? lol it even matches my sons nursery !:D

The old sweet pea swing that I had was so handy! It was really useful when we came home from anywhere. Just being able to switch the seat out with our car seat was the best! No crying fits when we got home. I wish I still had one for my daughter (due in March!)

I just had a little girl on October 2 and she’s teething already. She loves anything that vibrates and plays ocean sounds. She loves her swing but it has a short in it and she really needs another one. I stay at home all day with her while my fiance works so the Sweet Peace would be wonderful!

I would just love this for my daughter ! it is so nice how they have figured out how to make it so the seat can come off and be moved around to make the baby feel comfrontable. But also come off so you can put the baby car seat on there when you come home. I think it would work great for when the baby is sleeping and you don’t want to take them out of the car seat right away.

I am due with my FIRST in July! :) Honestly, the baby regustery is so overwhelming to me at this point. There is so much out there. I am the first of my friends to be married and pregnant so aside from the elders I have no one close to turn to in order for advice on the new must haves. I guess I will register later in my pregnancy: at the end of my second trimester to my early third trimester.

Thank you for the opportunity! We are starting from scratch and are excited at the chance for a swing!

I find that baby-wearing helps calm most babies! Our youngest just turned 1 but we are expecting again! So I would love to win!

As for a baby registry. My aunt (who does daycare) swears by the Fisher Price Newborn Rocker! She even purchased a second one because her daycare babies LOVED that thing for MONTHS! She said it’s great because the baby sits at an incline but you can rock the “seat?” so it is great for putting crabby babies to sleep too!

To help calm my granddaughter I walk with her and bounce her. This kills my back, but I will deal with the pain in order to help out her parents. The SweetPeace would be a huge help.

    On December 29, 2011 at 6:57 pm

I have a son who is 2, so not much calms him now, if he’s in a “mood!” He’s a pretty mellow kid though, so that helps.

I am currently pregnant with our second child, a little girl, and I would love this swing to help calm and soothe her when I can’t hold her. We’re registered at Babies R Us, but both hubby and I have wishlists on Amazon for both kiddos, so there’s that, too.

You’re jealous? I’m jealous!! My baby is 5 months old and we are using her 4 year old brothers old swing by another known brand. It was an expensive swing 4 years ago but I remember complaining how constantly replacing D batteries would cost us more than diapers! I expressed my concern to the company about making swings that have adapters. Now, 4 years later I could have purchased a new one but money is tight for many. Why purchase new when I have a perfectly working swing?
My daughter lives in her swing. She will sleep in her crib and she’s not too fussy, but she will only sleep long stretches in her swing. That and it’s easier for me to keep an eye on her or hear hear (even with monitors) when she’s in a room away while doing housework. And when the batteries die and we don’t have spare replacements… It’s freak out mode!
The only true way to soothe my baby without her swing is by breastfeeding her or just holding her (which throw in a herniated cervical disc and pinched nerve all down my “holding” arm) you can catch my drift.
So these swings are lifesavers for many!
Babies are soothed just by simple touch and comfort. At least mine were.
I’m hoping to win this for a friend who is due in early June. Her kids are older and she has no baby items. I could always give her my old swing but I figure this would knock all of her other baby shower gifts away. Thanks for reading and best of soothing to all of you moms!

The Christmas tree was actually working great during the month of December – those lights are so soothing to our three month old daughter. Too bad we can’t keep it up all year long! Otherwise we sooth her with swaddling, shushing, swaying, the pacifier, and other pretty lights (my husband works in production lighting and got a little colored disco like ball for her nursery – works wonders).

Would love to win this! We have a battery operated swing and would love to have a swing that runs on electric instead. Good Luck to everyone :)

This would be great to have with my new grand baby. She likes to swing, but especially likes to be walked.

All of my kids have been so different in this area! My 7 week old son likes to be snuggled by mama, my middle baby liked to be swaddled (instantly would stop crying every time), and my oldest liked to be bounced (by daddy).

I love this swing. My friend has this and when we went over to her house for Christmas my 7 wk old baby boy sat in it the entire time we were there. He never does that with the bouncer that we have at home. This would be awesome to win.
