American Baby’s Baby Booty: Win a Prodigy Car Seat!

Even if you haven’t had your baby yet, you’ve probably heard that a car seat is tough to install correctly. (Most people can’t do it!) Summer Infant spent years perfecting this new Prodigy infant car seat, which has a panel that guides you through installation—and rewards you with a light-up smiley face when you’ve got things right. Our other fave feature: The straps never need to be rethreaded, a simple tug adjusts them to your baby’s size each and every time. (Important if your baby is a bit bigger when he’s bundled for the cold, for instance!) The Prodigy is $180 at Babies “R” Us, but the team at Summer Infant is letting us give two out to our lucky readers. To enter, just post a comment below between now and Friday, November 11, 2011, and we’ll randomly choose two winners. We’d love for you to tell us your biggest concern when it comes to car seats. And hey…if it’s getting one installed correctly, we also encourage everybody to go to SeatCheck.org, put in your zip code, and find your nearest safety-check station. An expert set of eyes and arms is awesome for getting a car seat in the right way! For full rules, click here. Goody luck!

I would love to win a new carseat! Babies going to be here in just a few weeks! Biggest problem I have with carseats right now, how I’m going to fit the infant seat in the car along with my toddler’s carseat. It’ll be a tight fit! I also hate when I have to transfer the carseat to another car. You get used to doing it for your own car that others just seem so much harder!

It’d be nice to have a car seat that is easy to install and “smiles” when I’ve installed it correctly. The one I have now has no way to be adjusted and I have blankets and towels so it can be at the correct angle so my sons head doesn’t lean on his chest, but even though I have it like that I’m constantly checking on him scarrd that hemaybe I didn’t do it right. So this car seat would be a huge help for us.

We have a pickup, and so a big concern for us is a seat that will fit into the relatively small backseat, and that will fit there next to a booster seat for the older sibling.

Heading into the third trimester of my very first pregnancy as we speak. A car seat is one of the things my husband and I always discuss, it’s hard to know which one is best to buy for the baby, which is the safest, most comfortable, etc. Winning would take some of the pressure off! :)

  63. by Frannie

    On November 4, 2011 at 2:52 pm

My concern with car seats is the cheaper they are the less safe they seem. We can’t afford the best safety car seat for our son but while looking what is affordable seems terrible. An $80 car seat, the seating has little to no cushion an the plastic is so soft you could prolly break it yourself. Even after finding something we could afford, we weren’t happy with it. It’s rather disappointing that safety has such a big price and yes our kids are worth it but economy says other wise.

Pick me! I have a two month old and his carseat was brand new and after 2 months the handle is all wobbly i feel like it might fall off but after tightening it it doesnt move into different positions so im scared the seat might fall off while carrying and the base is weird. on the position that makes him tilt back the farthest he still sits pretty straight and on bumps his head flops forward and u can only make it more upright! aah not worth the money so PLEASE PICK ME!!

A big concern about car seats has got to be safety. Is my car seat safe enough for my bundle of joy? Is my car comfy enough for my lil one? Is my car seat reliable?

Carseats being installed correctly is very important. This year i will have one in a booster, one in convertable and one in a infant seat oi!! :-)

Wow! What an awesome feature: the smiley face lights up when everything is installed correctly? It is important to know just HOW the carseat is supposed to be installed, but actually pulling it off is harder than most parents (me) think. Between going to a safety check station and having the explicit directions as well as a signal to show when safely installed, this would mean peace of mind for a first time mommy (me)!!! What an awesome prize for parents-to-be!

My biggest concern for car seat safety is the straps being tight enough. My husband doesn’t want to bother with tightening the straps down each time and is convinced that our daughter “needs to be comfortable” and as long as she’s buckled in she’s safe. With baby number two on the way I want a car seat that is as easy to quickly tighten the straps down as possible when Mr. comfort puts the kids into the car.

Having a safe car seat is a non-negotiable for us, however many do not have the luxury of purchasing a really high quality one such as this. As a teacher in a Title I school where I counsel pregnant teens, I wish all of them could afford this one, as it clearly shows whether it is being used correctly. I would donate this to one of my girls if I won.

My biggest concern, oddly enough, isn’t about the straps and what have you…I’m pretty sure what I don’t know on those matters, I can find out in the manual or via the hospital staff or researching online. No, My biggest concern is this: At what age should I allow my dog to ride along with us in the car? She’s a 25lb dog, so she isn’t very big, but she loves going with us on trips and such, and so I don’t want to ban her from the car life forever yet I have to make sure my little one will be safe as well.

Car seat safety is a big concern, especially trying to figure out if it goes in the middle of your car or on the passenger side ( I have a really small car, got it installed at the fire station and they had to put it on the passengers side). Still didn’t feel very comfortable with it there (side impact). This time I will have to fit a car seat in the back with a convertible toddler seat. It is really important that I find a car seat that is safe and that I feel comfortable with this time, Hey we will be carrying double precious cargo this time!

I NEED this carseat!! I recently purchased a convertible MyRide 65 for our baby due in 3 weeks. I currently have a rear-facing 3 yr old and a forward facing 6 yr old in Radian 80 carseats. I am worried about positioning all three seats in my van which only has one side door and being able to get to all the kids to get them in and out easily.

I would love to have this car seat! I think for me, I always want my baby to be safe. I have the seats checked at AAA to make sure they are installed correctly, so I know that is ok. The hardest part of the seat is the rethreading of the straps every time they need to be adjusted. I love the no rethreading feature of this seat! If I win, I would love it, but I will be happy for whoever gets to have this great seat for their baby!

Please consider me when you give away the prodigy. I have been a volunteer Child Passenger Safety Technician for three years now. I help families every week. I’m also a state voucher site which gives free seats to low income families as well. I recommend seats all the time. Even though I give away seats, I do not qualify to get one. I’ll be having my first child in a few months and don’t have anything for him yet.
This would not only be a great feeling to win (knowing that he is safe) but also a way for me to spread the word to my clients about the seat! Thank you!

After 16 years of not worrying about car seats as much with my first and now looking at all of brands, prices, features, etc. with my second, I have no clue which to pick. Then on top of that I need to find someone to install or check my install to ensure its correct. It is nice to know and comforting to know that there are groups like this one to help make choices and tell you where to go for more information and help.

Car seat safety is a biggie with me! I love that this seat has the adjustable straps without rethreading (that is always the hardest part for me). My other concern is always how easy is it to take apart and clean. Yes, I’m the one who sees a spot on it and has to take it apart and clean lol. Good luck to everyone. I would love to have this seat, it looks great! I am also concerned about space as I will have 2 seats in my car’s backseat also.

I have a 2 week old newborn. We are very concerned with the safety of our newborn like all other parents. We registered for a carseat but did not recieve one so we bought one from a consignment shop. I have read that it is not the safest to use a “used” car seat, but it was significantly cheaper than a new one & looks almost like new. We would be very appreciative to win a new carseat.

Our biggest concern when it comes to carseats is knowing exactly what and when is safe to transfer to a bigger carseat. Our daughter is 2 and we just had to get her a bigger one because her height went past the previous seat’s limits. :-(

I think my biggest concern when it comes to car seats is if I’m installing them correctly. I have a 3 year old and one due 12/31. Having two car seats in the back seat worries me. I love that this car seat would give me that piece of mind that it is installed correctly! Thanks for the giving us a chance to win one!

Expecting baby #3 in January and will be resurrecting our car seat from the basement again. My biggest fear is that it will be covered in mold/mildew smell….something I try desperately to avoid in my house – but hard to do living on the NE Coast. It’s already over 4 yrs. old and I’ll have to double check for recalls. I can’t imagine a better gift for baby #3, than a SAFE & CLEAN ride home from the hospital!

I would love to win this car seat. My biggest fear about cat seats is getting into an accident and something goes wrong with the seat, I think this is every mothers greatest fear. They are so little and so defenseless we have to try and protect them any way possible. Having a good reliable car seat in the car helps in so many ways.

I’m pregnant with my 3rd son and have a toddler too, there is two things that make it tough:to install and to adjust the straps, especially on a infant b/c they are so tiny! and where i live winters are cold, so with a big winter jacket its hard b/c you have to adjust the straps again! and in the car with so many straps, that i’m never sure if i did it right. This is a great car seat especially with little face that way you know what you’re doing!

As a Paramedic and a mother of 5 I see a lot of children who are not restrained properly. So many injuries could be prevented by having your child in the proper seat and secured properly. My concern is there are so many different seats out there how do you choose? In my experience I have found researching online makes the choice a little easier. Register your seat with the manufacture so you are alerted if there is a recall.

This would be fantastic since we’re expecting again. The biggest concern is that the seats don’t fit very well with other seats in a car. Now that it’s the law, auto makers need to make some serious design changes and consider how car seats can fit better. (ie. when you have 1 toddler, 1 booster, 2 infant)

One feature that I wish I had in my infant carseat is the easily adjustable shoulder strap – the small strap that comes out the front that tightens the shoulder straps. Mine you have to dig around in the back in order to tighten them, which is very inconvenient. This one would be great!

the carseat we have is rather difficult to use. to tighten or loosen the straps, you have to do that from behind the carseat. it’s not very easy for us. just to get him into the carseat takes about 10 minutes, getting him out takes even longer. i am grateful to my dearest friend for buying us this carseat, without her help, we wouldn’t have one. we would just love something a bit easier to get him in and out of. we would donate this one we currently have.

My current car seat is simple to install and has a leveler bubble so you know it is at the right angle. However, the grips to keep the seatbelt in place are not strong enough. I live up 45 minutes of canyon. The grip has loosened more than once causing the seat to tip during the windy ride. I am constantly readjusting and worried that it has come loose.

This looks like a fabulous car seat! Car seat safety is a big deal for me. And mybiggest concern is when other people take my kids somewhere and I’m not there to make sure they are in their seats properly. There are too many people who don’t tighten the straps properly and whenever I am able to check on my kids after someone else has buckled them the straps hang loosely so having a car seat that not only buckles into the car and let’s you know it’s in right but also is easy to tighten would be a blessing. I would love to win this car seat for our 4th baby since our 3rd and 4th are both still gonna e rear facing for a bit longer.

We are expecting out 4 in May. Our Youngest it 4 and the car seat that we have is outdated…not to mention we need to buy a new crib cause ours was a drop side one. My mom has car seats for all my older kids and I would need a seat for the new baby that was easly switched from my car to her car. Something that even she could install if she had to. I am alway worried when she has to install the seat cause things have changed since she has had kids (her baby is almost 30). I woudl really love this Car seat for my new bundle of joy :)

My daughter is almost 3 years old and we are expecting our second child in May of 2012. When we found out we were pregnant with our daughter we were so afraid we would not have her properly protected. I had my husband put the car seat into the car and drive to the Michigan State Police branch that offered free car seat inspections to get our car seat certified it was installed correctly. I was so worried that although the seat was safety rated we would do something wrong to harm our child. I would love to win your carseat for my second baby. Please consider me! Thank you for the opportunity.

I would love to enter on behalf of my sister-in-law. She is 7.5 months and is expecting a boy. My husband and I had our third and last child last November so we had everything new given to us by my family. When we found out that she was expecting it was bitter sweet. She had been trying to have a baby for about 5 years and a few miscarriages later, she has been high risk. She does not have her mom to give her a baby shower or help her with anything. So we are going to give them her baby shower and any hand me downs from our last. She and her husband commute from home to work about 20 miles in different directions. So they each would love to have a car seat since one gets out earlier than the other. We love to give her a new car seat as a gift to them.

I could really use this- I’m due in December with baby number three! He’s a boy, and everything we have is girl, and has been through two girls already! My biggest concern with car seats is safety. I want to keep my kiddos rear-facing as long as possible, and having a seat that will stand the test of time is a MUST!

It would help greatly if we luckily won this awesome carseat! It looks comfortable and safe for our new third baby due in May. Presently we have no carseat and low on money. Hoping for one as a christmas present. This carseat has all the features I want in a carseat. It is hard to find a carseat that looks comfortable for baby, is easy to use, is safe and looks stylish. Thanks for letting me get this opportunity! :)

My biggest concern with a car seat (besides the obvious safety measures) is how heavy and awkward they are! I’m only 5 ft. tall and with my older two have fought with their infant carriers, until I eventually couldn’t pick them up anymore (luckily that was around the time they could convert to a bigger seat). My family jokes that I have T-Rex arms, puny and weak ;-) I can’t be the only one, right?

We need a new carseat before our newest little one arrives.

My complaint with the one we used previously was that the seat attached to the anchors at the front (baby’s feet), but they don’t use anchors at the back (baby’s bottom) to keep the base down. So if I were to stop really fast, baby would still bounce around a little bit. Even as tight as I could manage the installation, there was still enough wiggle to make me nervous.

My biggest concern with carseats is traveling with them on airplanes. We always gate check ours, but they never seem to be careful with them. And the last time we went, one of our “hubcaps” came off when they put it through the scanner. I wish carseats came with a protective carrying bag too…

This would be great to win. Baby & stuff ends up costing soooo much money, but so worth it!! Our biggest concern regarding car seats is ALWAYS that the straps get so tangled/twisted, and our car seat often won’t adjust properly depending on the extra clothing our son is wearing; this can cause a poor fit around the little one. I absolutely LOVE that the Summer Infant Prodigy has straps that don’t tangle, and it adjusts with just one tug. I would be the happiest momma to win this car seat, for baby #2 who is arriving in March!! Thanks!

So instead of buying a new one we just switched her since she was already over a year old. So we can’t use the old car seat with this baby. My biggest concern when it comes to carseats is baby’s safety, obviously. I want to know that the seat will protect her and keep her safe in any incident. Also, her comfort is a concern. Some car seats seem to be made to fit only one type of baby or something. I want to know that she’s comfortable while we make the hour long drive to see my family.

Our current car seats safety straps have to be readjusted every time and it is such a pain. We would love to have this car seat. The biggest concern I have with any child seat is their ability to stay in place with just the car’s seat belt as the only securing device. I currently do not have a car seat with a snap in base and I have to depend on my car’s seal belt to secure the car seat. I have noticed that the car seat doesn’t seem to be very secure and can be easily tilted forwards and backwards while the seatbelt is engaged. I would love to win the Prodigy Car Seat as it seems like it would provide a safe and comfortable ride for my little one. Thank you for your consideration.

  402. by Rebecca Lemus

    On November 5, 2011 at 12:43 pm

My biggest problem with installing carseats is knowing if they are set up correctly. I follow the instructions, but I never feel 100% satisfied that it is installed securely. My other concern is the seatbelts rubbing against my child’s neck, even with the little pads on. There is also the weight requirement. My child may not be heavy enough to upgrade to a bigger seat, but her feet hang over the edge and just looks so silly and doesn’t appear to be that safe at all.

I am glad to see the redesign of the seat attachment system. I have three boys and get ours checked at a check station quite often. If nothing else for peace of mind. My wife and I have different thinking when it comes to tightening straps. She is worried about comfort and I’m worried about safety. This seat seems to inherently be safe about the straps. I hope this seat saves more lives by design. Thanks

A big concern on infant car seats is not only proper installation, but making sure the baby is strapped in correctly each and every time – especially when another family member is responsible. The fact that this seat properly adjusts the straps with a little tug is fantastic!

Hi :) I’m due in march with my 2nd lil boy,Lucas Ryan! I’ve never really had too much trouble with the right way to strap in baby safely but I did take a class and go by the fire department and let them give me tips when my 1st son Logan was born! It is very important to make sure your baby and children are strapped in correctly! Thanks for the chance to win this awesome carseat! Good Luck to everyone!

I am 7 months pregnant and am really curious about wether a cheaper car seat means that it is not as safe. There are so many types and brands out there it is confusing trying to pick one in our budget that will still offer all of the needed safety features. So much to think about.

When I was 19, I was ticketed for not wearing a seat belt. As part of the punishment, I had to attend a seat belt class. In the class I learned the importance of installing a car seat correctly. The photos of car seats strewn across the cars after accidents was heartbreaking. I have always gone to the local fire station to have them teach me how to install each car seat I have had. The fact this car seat helps parents with precious little time to install correctly shows that manufacturers are aware of the situations families face in this depression. The giveaway is a great moral lifter and is a blessing to anyone who may receive one. I know it would help my husband and I with our little guy and ensure his safety each and every trip, despite the distance.

Would love to win a new car seat! My biggest concerns are installation, especially after taking the seat out for some reason, and being able to tell when the child has outgrown the height. They always give you a weight range, but never an approximate idea of how tall of a child the seat will fit- I know some kids have height in their torsos vs their legs, but a general idea would be helpful.

I would love for them to have one less thing to worry about. Picking the right car seat can be a challenge! I have a 4 month old and I spent months trying to find the perfect carseat. I ended up going with the chicco. As easy is it is to install, it’s definitly bulky and my son gets way too hot in it with all the extra padding! I wish i would have gotten this carseat! My worry about car seats is the basic installing. 3 out of 4 are put into the car incorrectly. That is very worrysome to think that something can happen to most these babies if you do end up in a car accident. I plan on taking my car seat to get checked to be sure I am using it correctly.

I have a couple concerns when it comes to car seats. The first one is making sure the car seat is level with the ground. The gentleman at the fire station, that helped us learn how to install our car seat correctly scared us a bit. Saying that if she is to far forward she can have her air ways cut off because she can’t hold her head up yet! Scared me to death. Now I’m anal about making sure she isn’t to far forward! And even when it is correct I’m still nervous about it! My daughter is a month old and I’m also afraid of putting her in there too tight! I don’t wanna mush her little shoulders! Omg, And I’m so afraid of snapping her skin when I snap it shut. :/

My biggest concern with carseats is if they are easy to adjust in order to be up to full standards in case of a crash and maintain the safety of your child. I’m a first time mom and my son’s carseat has been such a hassle. The straps have been so confusing to adjust to his size since we bought it and now they are still not back to how they used to be. We have spent long hours trying to fix them, which requires so much effort to squeeze and push the straps through the plastic in the back of the seat. They just end up twisted and we get frustrated with worry dealing with the thing. We are also too afraid to buckle the lower part because we have trouble adjusting them enough to where we feel the straps are not hurting or constricting his legs. It sounds wonderful that this seat is much more efficient when it comes to allowing the parents to feel comfort in the overall set up of the car seat. As a mom, it would bring a huge peace of mind!

We are due Feb. 1,2012 and there are many barriers to our ability to obtain a new car seat. It has been 9 years since our last was born and I have given everything away:) make a long story short. I am a Social Worker who’s been downsized as a result of budget cuts. I am simply worried that this child will not be afforded even the basics in a safe way. The idea of being able to have such a safe system would be a great relief.

Hi! My name is HollyRose, my mama is helping type this for me….. I am 11 months young today. Everyone says I’m the cutest baby … My birthday is coming soon and it would be so nice to have a pretty new seat that will keep me safe. I need one to be able to drive my granddaughter. My son has been fighting to get her on weekends after her mother decided to stop his weekends on a whim. He had to take her to court again. Here in Michigan, both parties have to pay costs to have a custody change. Of course, she refused to, and he paid both hers and his, so he could get weekends again. I haven’t seen her since last spring, except through pictures he has taken.

    On November 5, 2011 at 9:50 pm

A new seat would be amazing! I was recently in a severe car accident (somebody failed to stop at their red light) and I was injured (luckily my 2 year old only had a few bumps and bruises). With that said, trying to prepare for a new arrival while continuing to remain on crutches (for what looks like quite a while yet) is very difficult. This brings me to my biggest concerns with carseats which would be trying to install the base and adjusting the harness. Tighting the belt on the base for most models is extremely difficult. You need to kneel/sit on it while pulling the belt to ensure its tight enough. As for the harness, that’s always a pain when you have to remove and rethread. After being in a severe accidnt, you definitely think about safety and security/support when looking for a new seat. Being able to avoid the items that cause worry while recovering would be awesome as well as having peace of mind on safety & security.

My biggest concern with a car seat is that it is truly functional! I have seen a lot of car seats that are cute or have a name brand but they aren’t getting high safety ratings. I am pregnant with my second child and there is a five year gap so we have to buy a new infant car seat.

You shouldn’t strap the baby in WITH the snowsuit on. It’s like wearing a snowsuit under a parachute, the parachute (or car seat) isn’t going to be tight enough to do it’s job in the case of an accident. Yes, not having to re-thread the harness is a great feature, but not so that your baby can wear a snowsuit in a car seat….those two items don’t mix. I’m a CPST, this is my job!!! I have a 8 week old baby boy. His car seat is often moved from our car to her grandmas car and needs to be propped up with a towel in order to be level and is very loud when being snapped into place. Sometimes one side doesn’t snap so i have to reach around and make sure- and it is SO LOUD and always startles my son. i am always worried it i’snt in correctly and is at a bad angle! We would love a new car seat :D

I would love to win this for my newborn son! We’ve been using our daughter’s old infant car seat and it’s pink and brown. We couldn’t afford a new one. Whenever we go out people would say, ” your daughter is so cute!” I would always have to correct them. (Kind of hilarious) They get thrown off by the pink and brown.

They have been moving around a lot, because he keeps getting stationed in different parts of the country.

My biggest concern with car seats is the strap that goes over the child’s shoulders. Its seems as though they do not design them for taller kids and my sons straps seem to be to snug on his shoulders. It would be nice if they added more cut outs to make the shoulder straps higher.

I am 7 months pregnant with my second boy, and was so happy to stumble upon this contest! I have always been a fan of the Graco Snugride carseats, but after reading up on the reviews and benefits of this carseat, it seems I might have just altered my preferences! My biggest concern is really just how long it’s been since I’ve needed to use an infant carseat. So much has changed since then. I will definitely need some assistance installing our carseat!!! Good luck to everyone in the contest!

My biggest concern regarding car seats is that it will be too big and bulky for my vehicle. If I could I would change cars to accommodate a better vehicle but that is not an option. I did some volunteer work with Safe Kids Las Vegas and helped to properly install car seats at mandatory checks around the city and was shocked at how many people did not have any car seat for their kid or how many people had grossly improperly installed their seats. :( It did teach me a lot and now I spread the word to all that I know.

My biggest concern with car seats is recalls and new research. What if I’m using a car seat that has been recalled or that does not fit safety standards or what if new research is released that proves that my daughter’s car seat is unfit for use. I worry that I won’t find out if my car seat is OK until I have an accident.
