Tackling Childhood Hunger
In a country where both fad diets and the obesity epidemic consistently top the list of newsworthy topics, it is easy to neglect to notice that hunger is a significant problem in modern America. According to the USDA’s Economic Research Service, there are 50 million people that live in households that don’t have food security, of which 17 million are children. This means that a staggering 1 in 4 children lives with the anguish of not knowing where their next meal will come from.
Food industry giant ConAgra is looking to change these statistics. They recently launched the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign, with a goal of ensuring that 2.5 million tiny tummies are filled with a nutritious meal. Selected ConAgra products, such as Chef Boyardee canned pastas, will be marked with a purchase code that can be entered on their website. For every code entered, one meal will be provided to Feeding America, an organization that works with local food banks to distribute groceries to those in need.
You can help by purchasing specially marked ConAgra items, or donating directly to hunger-based organizations, such as Feeding America. Getting involved with your community’s local food bank is another great way to aid the cause. Let’s work together to make childhood hunger in the U.S. an issue of the past.Add a Comment
