Teens and Brain Fog
Most scientists once believed the human brain reached full development by age 12. But research based on improved brain scan technology indicates that coordination of certain functions continues to come together through the early 20s, said Lawrence Steinberg, a psychology professor at Temple University. “It’s not that a teen is forgetting,” he said. “It’s more like they’re much more drawn to the immediate reward of a situation than adults are and they’re much less likely to think ahead and think about the future. The future can be just an hour later.” (MSNBC)

Obama’s Budget Proposes a Significant Increase for Schools
President Obama proposed a 2012 Department of Education budget on Monday that would, if approved, significantly increase federal spending for public schools, and maintain the maximum Pell grant — the cornerstone financial-aid program — at $5,550 per college student.   (New York Times)

Too many hours on the job could put high school teens at risk
For high school students, working more than 20 hours a week at a part-time job could be doing more harm than good, a new study suggests. Students who worked more than 20 hours a week had lower expectations for educational attainment, lower school engagement, higher levels of substance abuse, and other problem behavior. The study, authored by researchers at the University of Washington, the University of Virginia and Temple University, found that working more than 20 hours a week in high school is associated with decreased school engagement and increases in problem behavior. The study is published in the January/February issue of the journal Child Development. (USA Today)

Survey: Cheating, lying widespread among high school students
If Honest Abe Lincoln were still around, he might be shocked at the findings a survey examining the honesty (or dishonesty) of American high school students. The Josephson Institute of Ethics surveyed 43,000 high school students in October, and found frequent cheating, stealing, and lying in the past year. (USA Today)

Energy Drinks May Hurt Kids

Energy drinks such as Red Bull, AMP and Rockstar have no health value and may even harm some children and teens, a new review finds. The increasingly popular, highly caffeinated drinks are especially risky for children with heart abnormalities, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or other health or emotional problems, said Dr. Steven E. Lipshultz, co-author of the study, published online Feb. 14 in the journal Pediatrics. (Yahoo)

Jackie,I always enjoyed watching you on TV. I had no idea you were trying to lose weight you were so much more beautiful than most hosts on TV even with your extra weight and your personality was magical, you just knew how to entice the viewers, grab their attention and hold it. You had the perfect balance of sophistication, charm, energy, and passion in episode after episode and I tuned into see you. I never tune into see a host but you just impressed me so much! I wish you the best in your career, continued success and happiness. I also wish you good health. I have also struggled with weight issues. I was put on such a high dose of steroids for Lupus that I gained 75 pounds in a year of taking them just so I could walk, work, and do activities of daily living like shampoo my hair. I then was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was fine able to exercise one day then suddenly my life changed and here I was a former athlete not able to exercise and living daily with chronic widespread pain. I worked hardand lost 100 pounds by dieting. I want to lose 50 more. The only problem is, I will need plastic surgery for the loose skin. This year my health got so bad I had to take time off my Nursing job. I have always taken care of other people. I have a really low self esteem now and body issues I dont know how to make myself happy with my body as it is. I once was voted most beautiful at two colleges but I sit at home despite people telling me I am attractive I know what I really look like. I will lose the rest of the weight and meet my goal. I will do anything to prevent any furthur health problems. How does one accept their body after all that work. Really, you know what it looks like. My health conditions only let me do minimal exercise so power workouts can make my conditions flareup. Many people do not realize that fibro patients pain receptors are abnormal so they feel pain at a greater intensity. Its like you have the flu everyday. When the pain in my joints happen because of the arthritis it is more severe because of the fibro. There is little research done on this disease and it effects millions of mainly women which is why probably there has been few effective treatments. The medications for it have minimal efficacy thus far. I know you get behind causes and Oprah finally did a show I heard on the disease this year. I wanted to tell you how it changes lives and disables lots of people. Many people get ineffective treatment for years and have little support because they dont look sick and family and friends dont understand the disease. I have dealt with it alone. Its been difficult but you tell yourself things like at least its not cancer so that you can get thru each day. You take one day at a time and you cannot plan because you dont know how you will feel. But there still is a person in me that wants to be more healthy, more attractive so even if I cannot get the plastic surgery I need I still press on. I never ever will give up. I have survived way more than health problems and I have to keep at it. I respect you for standing up for what you believe in. Again, best wishes.

I have been browsing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my view, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be much more useful than ever before.
