A Reminder From The Teacher

I went on a class trip with my daughter’s kindergarten class this morning, and I was struck by the fact that her teacher practically whispered every time he spoke to the children. And they heard every word. Which made me think, duh: If you want a kid to really listen (and not get defensive), don’t yell. In my own home, this is also usually true. Yelling gets a reaction, but typically not the one I really want. However, when I make a real effort to keep my tone calm (whether I am telling one of my kids that I’m not happy with her behavior or asking her to clean up a mess), I am much more likely to get results. Next time I’m going to whisper. Check out these other top parenting tips that teachers, pediatricians, child care providers and other important people in our life want us to know.
