Keep Your Baby Safe on A Plane

“Everything on a plane — including coffee pots — has to be restrained during takeoff and landing and in times of turbulence…Everything, that is, except young children sitting on a parent’s lap.” That sentence stuck with me from this news story about the renewed debate over whether all young kids must be safely secured in their own seat on airplanes. The article also recounted heartbreaking examples of recent plane crashes in which babies sitting on their parent’s lap had died. Of course, it’s tempting to save money and not buy your baby his own seat, but the American Academy of Pediatrics, the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board all strongly recommend that you strap him into a car seat.
