Goody Green: PBS Kids “Trash to Treasure Contest”

Do you have a child between the ages of 5 and 19 that loves to reduce, reuse and recycle? If you answered yes, here’s your chance to get his or her creative juices flowing.

Take the bottles, the cans, the paper bags, the plastic bags, the worn clothing, the brown boxes, and other everyday materials out of the garbage and see what your tinkering tot can turn them into. Next, log on to pbskids.org/designsquad between now and September 5th to enter the PBS Kids’s 2010 Trash to Treasure contest.

Inventions must be made of reused or recycled materials and either move things or people, or protect the environment, or be used for indoor or outdoor play. Oh, the possibilities! Three lucky winners will be brought to Boston, where their inventions will be built by a design consultancy, and appear on the Design Squad show on PBS. Plus, the top 25 finalists will be featured on the Design Squad website. For inspiration, check out last year’s winner here.

Happy Upcycling!
