My Newest Obsession: Non-Toxic Nail Color
Since she was about four, whenever I've spent the day with my littlest cousin, Allie, she's begged me to do two things: braid her hair and paint her nails. I find the braiding incredibly relaxing (and not just because it gets her to sit still long enough for me to catch my breath!), but the polish part always makes me a bit uneasy—all those toxic chemicals in the polish, not to mention the remover my aunt will have to use on Allie’s hands later on.
So I was really excited to discover Sula Paint & Peel nail color (full disclosure: our awesome Editor in Chief, Dana, gave me a
bottle of the stuff last week as part of a sweet birthday gift), a nontoxic, water-based formulation that’s free of Formaldehyde, Toluene and Phthalates as well as other cancer-linked ingredients still found in many standard polishes. Not only is it a product I’d feel comfortable sharing with my cuz, it dries in just two minutes—which is about how long she can sit still anyway. Best of all, Paint & Peel is just that—as soon as you grow tired of your nail color, you can simply peel it off in seconds, sans remover. No harsh chemicals, no fumes—and, to be honest, the peeling part is totally addictive. I’ve peeled and repainted my nails in Perfect Pink (shown above) five times in about a week!
