On Being a Cool Dad

I’ve been away from the office for a few weeks. The reason: Paternity Leave. My wife gave birth to our new little daughter, Emily Elizabeth*. She was born on 13th of June, weighing in at a whopping 8 lb. 13 oz. She’s an adorable little girl and a pretty decent alarm clock. Of course, Daddy is smitten with her, so much so that he now refers to himself in the third person.

Although she’s the perfect Father’s Day gift, my dad gave me an awesome book that’ll be handy in a few years: Be the Coolest Dad on the Block. You’ll find everything from silly magic tricks, to scientific facts, to lists of whimsical misconceptions that will mess with your kids’ perception of the universe. Everything is in neat, convenient, bite-sized bits and it’s brilliantly written. This book should be your next addition to your bathroom reading list.

*Yeah, we know about the Clifford connection. I found out about that shortly after we settled upon the name. Considering she’s a cute enough cartoon character, we decided to keep it. It’s not as if she’s sharing a name with someone like Azrael the Cat.

Congratulations! My oldest daughter, Emily Grace (who will be 5 in a little over a week) became smitten with all things Clifford when she was 10 months old. Her first real word was “goggy” (doggy)and she convinced not one but two of her preschool teachers to make Clifford bulletin boards just for her (which now adorn her bedroom walls.) She’s always been a little upset with us for not naming her Emily Elizabeth, so I’m sure your little one won’t mind!!! Best of luck and God Bless!!!
