Moms Making a Difference

Dscn3083_3Huge congratulations go out to my sister-in-law Catherine and her friends Kendra, Katie and Eleanor, who completed the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk in San Diego a few weekends ago. These busy moms (and I mean busy—between the four of them, they have 14 kids) trained all summer and fall for this 60-mile event, squeezing workouts into their already-jammed days. Not only did they get into great shape, they raised a whopping $34,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. They walked in honor of their wonderful friend Robin, a mother of two children, who died of breast cancer last year.
I’m so inspired by them and I hope you are too. So here’s a challenge: Why not recruit some of your pals to sign up for a fundraising walk? Having a goal—and friends to work out with—makes exercising way more fun, plus you’re doing something really good for the world. There are Breast Cancer 3-Day Walks in 14 cities next year. Also check out the MS Walk, AIDS Walk, and Team in Training.

I have recently joined Team in Training to help me train for The Salt Lake Marathon and raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma and other blood cancers. They said that every 5 minutes someone in the US is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every 10 minutes someone dies from one. I’m doing what I can to help and at the same time I’ll be helping myself become healthy.
