We love taking pictures of our babies, right? I mean, who doesn’t. I can’t help myself…good god, as I’ve written before, I think Em is one of the most beautiful babies on the planet. And Fia is such a character with her ethereal beauty… Of course I’m biased like all moms and dads. My dilemma is what to do with them all?
I think back to when I was growing up. Film was expensive. Phones with cameras didn’t exist. I have a couple really sweet photo albums my mom put together over my growing up years. She also had an accordion file with each of our names on a folder. We could go in anytime and look at our pictures. There were probably about 10-15 photos for each of us.
I sit here in my office and look at 2 rows of photo books on a shelf. I never wanted to get too far behind the game in printing out photos of the kids. From when Fia was born, I would upload photos every few months to one of the sites where you can then order prints. I would guess 90% of the photos I take, I eventually upload. Which means I end up getting probably 900 prints over the course of a year to put in albums. Then, I have to sit down, put them all in order, put them in the albums, then write captions. It’s a fairly large undertaking.
At the rate I am going, I will need a house just to store all my photo books. But I like having hard copies. What is the point otherwise? Let them sit on a computer? And if that computer crashes without backup?
I try and be judicious when I’m picking out which photos to print. But I get so caught up in, “Well, this one is so sweet, I should print that one.” “It’s only 9-cents, may as well order it.”
What’s funny is my system seems far more “old school” than most of my friends. They don’t order prints. They just keep them all on their computer. Which means they probably don’t really have a “system.”
But I’m looking down the road. Your child will never have your computer. So someday are you going to export all the photos to them? Or will they just die with your computer (and with you) and never see the light of day?
I feel overwhelmed by the many photos and albums I have but I don’t only want my pictures to be on an electronic device. And the online photo books you can make and order would probably take just as much–if not more–time. And then you still have books and books of photos.
Is there something I’m missing here that would make my life easier in this regard? Any system you guys have that you care to share? Many thanks!

This was as close as we got to my “tree dangling” idea.
I mentioned in my blog post yesterday that we changed the name of my blog. Along with it, we have a new picture. After failing multiple times to get a decent picture with my small point and shoot, I asked my good friend Jilly Wendell to come over. She’s a professional photographer–and extremely talented at that.
Originally I told her I wanted to be up in a tree, dangling down, with Fia pointing up at me and Emmett looking up from his blanket.
“Um, I don’t see that working on many levels,” she said.
Oh yeah, right. First of all, it’s a tiny picture, so there is no way to get all that in one shot. Second, how the hell was I going to get two babies–one who is only 2 months old–to do that? And third: should I be “dangling” from a tree right now? Absurd idea. Scratch that.
But then, I thought about adding Wayne Sanchez (my transexual cat) into the mix. He’s a big part of our family.
She gently pointed out that:
a) We were shooting outside to make use of the natural light, (which immediately erases Wayne from the picture. He could run off and be eaten by a coyote, which would really wreck the day) and…
b) Trying to get two babies to look at the lens, and then a cat?? Probably Impossible. Especially when you’re asking for a favor.
So we bopped around the yard and got some really great shots. It was loads of fun. And simple. Which is all you can do when you’re juggling two babies and trying to pull off a decent picture. The one above and the three below are what I sent to Parents to help decide.
This one would have required cropping Phil out.

Our New Blog Picture
We have a new name! No, not of Emmett or Fia, but of my blog. While we loved Of Fi I Sing, Emmett was excluded. Plus, with two kids I am entering a new phase of my life. As my blog has evolved, we realized my outlook is more than just focusing (and obsessing) on Fia. Motherhood is so all-encompassing and takes on almost all aspects of my life. We wanted the title to reflect that more. Plus, I didn’t want my boy to need (more) major therapy later on for feeling left out.
So after some massive brainstorming sessions in which I thought my computer Thesaurus was going to fire me, we came up with this new one. Introducing:
Fearless Feisty Mama: Candid and Comical Confessions of a Slightly Obsessive Mom
I’m really excited about it. I think it conveys more of my tone and style. We decided on “Fearless” because I’m not afraid to share my story. Whether it be the death of my drug- addicted mom, my decision to stay on antidepressants when pregnant, or my ugly vag issue, I tend to speak my mind and give an open and honest opinion.
We came up with “Feisty,” not only because I love alliteration, but in many ways it is my attitude towards parenting issues. From my annoyance at my babysitters for constantly losing sh-t, to the people who pay their nannies six-figures (ridiculous!), to my adamant stance on sleep training (do it!).
With my new name, we have a new look! My friend Jilly Wendell is an amazing photographer. She was kind enough to come over to our chaos and take a zillion pictures, hoping to get one without Emmett barfing, Fia screaming and me grimacing through a forced smile–though that is probably more realistic of our current state.
I’ll post some of the others this Friday.
Also, you may notice some of the older posts have images missing. And there are a few technical difficulties we are sorting out in changing my blog title. So bear with us and keep coming back. You guys help feed my creative soul.

Okay, I know the title says Friday, but it’s actually Sunday and I’m only now finding a few moments to myself to post. I swear I don’t know how I have so little time. But it is scarce. Seems like having just one baby was a breeze. More on all that later, as I have lots to say, but, to sound like a broken record, no time.
Fia is really into picking out her clothes. This was the latest outfit as she went with her Dad to a BBQ yesterday. I have to admit Phil did have some hand in dressing her too. They are both strange. They keep life fun!
Tutu, Snack, Boots, Hat. She’s Ready to Go.

Our friends sent Fia this dress. Not sure if it’s a tutu or if we can use it for Easter. Maybe it’s both? (But let me note: it goes well with her pink eye that she was just diagnosed with…poor girl.)
And of course, a new picture of Baby Boy Blue.
This one is from today:
And this one from about a week ago…
