Milestone Monday–Chat Chat Chat

The Chatterbug

Author’s Note: Join me every Monday as I share Fia’s ongoing milestone (mis)adventures–from potty training to talking to everything in between.  Mayhem and mischief guaranteed on Milestone Monday!

Everyone says it happens. Like when a pipe breaks and the water gushes. That’s the equivalent to Fia’s mouth at the moment. It’s almost as if a fairy came in the night and gave her a shot of word juice. It really is pretty amazing. The down side: I now have to watch what I say, lest I give my child a potty mouth. My mother-in-law suggested I use the word “Buzzle Peepers” when I’m frustrated. Or “Heavens to Betsy.”

“@#$%^&)#@$” was my response to that (at least in my head. It’s hard to lose a third of your vocabulary).

Back to Fia though. She speaks in sentences now. “What’s Grandpa doing?” she said the other day, as he was hammering a picture on our wall. I spun around to see what possessed my child. Where did she learn “What’s?” I guess from everyone around her, and of course, Sesame Street. But to put the pieces of a sentence together? It’s wild. They really are little sponges. It is fascinating to watch. And oh, so much fun to see the learning curve.

Her favorite sentence–which was also her first–is “I pooped.” She says it all day long. “No baby, you didn’t poop,” I say, after checking her for the 15th time. Doorbell rings. It’s the mailman. “I pooped,” she says, before blowing him a kiss. He laughs awkwardly. And runs to the next house. Then when she does poop…silence. “Baby, you pooped!” I exclaim. Her reply: “I farted.”

F–king Peepers and Dammit to Betsy.

Fia’s 22-Month Milestones

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Fia’s latest milestone is chatter. It is so damn cute I can hardly stand it. At 22 months, she is almost saying complete sentences. She also makes me realize all the grunts, groans and words I use. I’ll clear my throat. She’ll imitate—hmmm didn’t even realize I cleared my throat.

She also says the word “sure” super enthusiastically.  She says it to a lot of things. If she’s in a “sure” mood, Phil and I say things like, “Fia, do you want to wipe Wayne’s nose?” “SURE!” she says. “Fia, do you want to mop the floor?” “SURE!”

I swear, when you have a baby, you don’t need to pay for entertainment. They provide it for free.

She’s very specific when it comes to “no.” She says it in such an emphatic way; it cracks me up every time.

She is still trying to master jumping. She can’t quite get both feet off the ground yet, so she kind of shuffles them both and jumps with one leg, all the while saying, “jump jump jump.” Again, hilarious.

I love hearing her little voice.  And seeing all these small, but significant milestones.

We finally got some of them on video. Must remember to capture all this.

Would love to hear some of your funny milestones with your babes.
