Milestone Monday–Chat Chat Chat
Author’s Note: Join me every Monday as I share Fia’s ongoing milestone (mis)adventures–from potty training to talking to everything in between. Mayhem and mischief guaranteed on Milestone Monday!
Everyone says it happens. Like when a pipe breaks and the water gushes. That’s the equivalent to Fia’s mouth at the moment. It’s almost as if a fairy came in the night and gave her a shot of word juice. It really is pretty amazing. The down side: I now have to watch what I say, lest I give my child a potty mouth. My mother-in-law suggested I use the word “Buzzle Peepers” when I’m frustrated. Or “Heavens to Betsy.”
“@#$%^&)#@$” was my response to that (at least in my head. It’s hard to lose a third of your vocabulary).
Back to Fia though. She speaks in sentences now. “What’s Grandpa doing?” she said the other day, as he was hammering a picture on our wall. I spun around to see what possessed my child. Where did she learn “What’s?” I guess from everyone around her, and of course, Sesame Street. But to put the pieces of a sentence together? It’s wild. They really are little sponges. It is fascinating to watch. And oh, so much fun to see the learning curve.
Her favorite sentence–which was also her first–is “I pooped.” She says it all day long. “No baby, you didn’t poop,” I say, after checking her for the 15th time. Doorbell rings. It’s the mailman. “I pooped,” she says, before blowing him a kiss. He laughs awkwardly. And runs to the next house. Then when she does poop…silence. “Baby, you pooped!” I exclaim. Her reply: “I farted.”
