While billions of people worldwide are waiting with anticipation to see when Kate Middleton will go into labor this July, there’s only one person who will make her child’s birth an event that will go down in history: Prince William. According to reports, he is planning to be in the delivery room with Kate, which may sound like no big deal (um, aren’t all dads these days?), but it is apparently a historical occasion.
This would be the first royal birth ever where the dad was present for the delivery. That’s right, when Prince William was born, Prince Charles was off playing polo. When Prince Charles was born, Prince Philip was playing squash. And the list goes on and on.
I can’t even begin to fathom what it would have been like going into the delivery room without my husband holding my hand, encouraging me, and DJing the occasion (I needed party music to keep me energized for the big labor pushes). You need all of the support you can get, especially for your first birth, where you’re pretty much clueless no matter how many books you’ve read and classes you’ve taken. Sure, if Will follows the royal precedence, Kate Middleton could have her mom Carole and/or sister Pippa by her side, but it’s just not the same.
Whether Prince William is present or not, the birth of the royal heir, who is the third in line to the British throne, will likely take place in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, where Princess Di gave birth to Prince William—and it might even be a water birth. The Duchess of Cambridge is said to be researching all kinds of birthing methods, and according to British mag, Grazia, Kate is also considering Hypnobirthing—the use of hypnosis to reach maximum relaxation and comfort during childbirth.
In my opinion, there is no one—or anything—who can help you achieve total relaxation like the one you love. So I hope for Kate’s sake, William does break the royal tradition so he can be there for Kate and their newborn. I think he’d kick himself if he missed it. Prince William, here are some support tips for you (and other dads) to follow in the delivery room. Don’t let Kate down!
