Let’s Not Body-Shame 8-Months-Pregnant, Bikini-Clad Hayden Panettiere

Wednesday, November 19th, 2014

The media captured some images of images of an 8-months-pregnant Hayden Panettiere wearing a two-piece swimsuit while vacationing in Hawaii this week, and it kind of went nuts.

It turns out—shocking, I know—that many celebrity news outlets are eager to judge women’s bodies when they look approximately like real pregnant human beings and not like toy dolls with passably teeny ‘bumps.”

TMZ’s headline shouted about the “GIANT” star (caps theirs, not mine), and said that her “proportions seem out of whack.”

The Daily Mirror called her “huge” in its headline, and proclaimed her “ready to pop” — one of my least favorite pregnancy phrases of all time — as did the Daily Mail. So did Perez Perez Hilton (but at least also allowed that she looked “flawless”). Even the publications that had a few friendly things to say about the star overwhelmingly used language that implied judgement and shame.

The star is, by her own admission to Hello! magazine (as cited in the Daily Mail), up more weight than is recommended during singleton pregnancy, adding close to 40 pounds to her itty bitty frame. “I’m 5 feet, 2 inches, and I started out at 106 pounds and guess how much I weigh now? Around 145 pounds,” she said.

But life happens, and there are many things about pregnancy that we can’t necessarily predict or control. It can be a plenty uncomfortable enough time without good-intentioned gawkers on the street — let alone body-shaming media screaming judgement-laden language.

So here’s all I have to say about that: If a pregnant lady, famous or no, finds some time to ease her achy joints and feet with some buoyant time in the water, let her wear whatever the heck she pleases.

To that end, check out our gallery of pregnant celebs in bikinis. Work it, ladies!

Christina Aguilera Bares Her Bump: Should You?

Monday, August 4th, 2014

Artsy baby bump photos have become nearly ubiquitous, ever since Demi Moore famously posed nude during one of her pregnancies on Vanity Fair. (They’ve become so ubiquitous, in fact, that “manternity” shots of guys in those classic baby bump poses are becoming a thing.) And Christina Aguilera is the latest celeb to bare her bump (and leave very little to the imagination) in a gorgeous photo shoot for V Magazine.

“As a woman, I’m proud to embrace my body through all stages of life, staying fearless and confident in surrendering to the unknowns the future has in store,” she told V. And it’s clear that pregnancy has been very good to her and her body (or the PhotoShop gods have—I don’t see a single stretch mark).

Kudos to her for having the moxie to show it all off—I wouldn’t have had the courage to pose nude, even when I was 20 and not pregnant!

Tell us: Did you get baby bump shots done? And did you have the courage to pose nude to show off your pregnancy?

Gender Reveal! Kelly Rowland Is Having a…

Friday, August 1st, 2014

It’s going to be a boy for Destiny’s Child Kelly Rowland—though she wasn’t quite ready to spill the beans on whether it was a boy or girl to the public!

In an interview on Fox, she accidentally referred to her baby as “he,” when talking about how spoiled he already is. And then finally, she just went ahead and said: “It, it’s…aw, f–k it! It’s a boy. It’s a boy!”

She’s not the only celeb who slipped and inadvertently shared their baby’s sex during an interview. Last year, Jessica Simpson famously let it slip that she was having a boy on Jimmy Kimmel Live, by saying: “The crazy thing is I never knew a wiener could make me nauseous.”

And Kelly Rowland already has a baby name picked out, though she didn’t spill the beans on what she and husband Tim Witherspoon picked. The only hint? “The dad picked out the name. It has to do with family,” she said. Maybe Timothy Jr.?

Wondering if you’re having a boy or a girl? Check out our Ancient Chinese Birth Chart. And don’t forget to like Everything Pregnancy on Facebook to keep up with the very latest in pregnancy news and trends!

Which Grey’s Anatomy Star Is Pregnant?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2014

Looks like fact and fiction are gelling quite nicely for Grey’s Anatomy’s star Sarah Drew. Her character, April Kepner, just announced her pregnancy with hunky husband (and fellow doctor) Jackson Avery in the season finale last spring, and now Sarah just shared the same big news in real life—she’s due in December.

This will be the second baby for Sarah and her husband, Peter Lanfer, who already have a two-year-old son, Micah Emmanuel. (more…)

Which Frozen Star is Expecting Baby #2?

Monday, June 23rd, 2014

And baby makes four! Frozen star Kristen Bell and her Parenthood-starring husband Dax Shepard are getting ready to add a little sister or brother for daughter Lincoln, now 15 months. The couple announced the news today to Entertainment Tonight.

“I can confirm that Kristen and Dax are expecting their second child and a sibling for Lincoln,” the rep says, according to Us Magazine. “The whole family is beyond excited.”

That’ll mean the pair have two kiddos under the age of two—which should be VERY exciting and busy for them. (No wonder Kristen has talked recently about scaling back her career a bit to spend time with her family—as anyone with two really young kids knows, it’s never a dull moment!) Hopefully, it won’t put the kibosh on a few projects that she’s talked about, including potentially reprising her role of Anna in a Broadway version of Frozen.
