Holiday Mocktails: Cheers to That!

Tuesday, December 24th, 2013

‘Tis the season to be jolly—with or without alcohol! Since you’re pregnant, it’s going to have to be without. So here are three fab family recipes that will get you into the holiday spirit without actually adding spirits!

Candy Cane Crush

2 oz. strawberry soda or punch

4 dashes of white non-alcoholic crème de menthe

2 ½ oz. cranberry juice

Candy cane

Place crushed candy canes on a saucer. Wet the outside of the rim of a chilled martini glass with water. Hold the glass by the stem and rotate to coat with candy. In a shaker, add all ingredients with ice and shake. Strain into glasses.

Apple Cider Mocktini

½ cup apple cider

¼ cup orange juice

Splash of pomegranate juice

Cinnamon stick

Shake in a chilled martini shaker; pour into a martini glass and add a cinnamon stick for garnish.

Cranberry Dream

6 oz. cranberry juice cocktail

1 oz. orange juice

Club soda or Sprite

Orange wedge

Pour chilled cranberry juice cocktail and orange juice into a glass and top with club soda or Sprite. Garnish with orange wedge.

Cute Baby Shower Idea: Dr. Seuss-Themed Blue Mocktail Recipe

Monday, June 10th, 2013

Virgin Blue Hawaiian Recipe Now that I have a blog called “Everything Pregnancy,” people think I must know, well, everything about pregnancy—including throwing an awesome baby shower. I’ve always loved a good theme party (from tequila and mezcal tastings for Cinco de Mayo to Mad Men-style ’60s costume and cocktails), so when a friend recently wanted baby shower ideas for her sister’s fete, I told her two words: Dr. Seuss!

Whether you are—or someone you’re giving a baby shower for is— having a boy or a girl, a Dr. Seuss-themed party is always a big hit. Who doesn’t love Dr. Seuss? Not only are favorites like The Lorax and Green Eggs and Ham gender-neutral, but some Dr. Seuss characters are perfect for twins too, like Cat in the Hat‘s Thing One and Thing Two and the red and blue fish from One Fish, Two Fish.

IMHO every party should have a signature drink. So here is a Blue Hawaiian mocktail recipe I like to call Thing One for a Dr. Seuss-themed party (but this could also be used for any baby shower for a boy).

Serving size: 1 drink. To make large batches, multiply recipe by double the amount of guests you expect.

  • 5 oz. blue fruit punch drink (like Kool Aid or Hawaiian Punch)
  • 1 oz. coconut milk
  • 1 oz. pineapple juice
  • 1 oz. ginger ale

Mix all ingredients and pour into a plastic glass filled with ice. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

For the non-preggo ladies at the bash, add 3/4 oz. vodka and 3/4 oz. rum to each drink to create Thing Two. Make sure each is clearly labeled “Thing One Mocktail” and “Thing Two Cocktail” so there’s no confusion for your guests.

Welcome to Everything Pregnancy!

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Patty and Logan photo Hi,

My name is Patty Adams Martinez, and I’m excited to introduce you to the new blog, Everything Pregnancy, for As a mom of one adorable 9-month-old, what it feels like to be pregnant and the many ups (finding out the sex of the baby! feeling him kick for the first time!) and downs (morning sickness for 6 months straight! developing gestational diabetes!) are fresh in my mind.

Being pregnant is such a magical time, and I’m happy that I’ll be a part of your journey, filling you in on everything from which celebrities are pregnant along with you, to how to dress your ever-growing bump, entertain alcohol-free, plan a babymoon on a budget, and decode all of the important (and sometimes crazy) studies that come out about pregnancy.

I’m an entertainment junkie, who has had the pleasure of interviewing tons of stars over the years, so this pop culture-filled blog about pregnancy is the perfect pairing of my two passions. I’ll be blogging most weekdays with my postings going up around 1 pm ET (if I’m late—please cut me some slack due to my aforementioned cutie, who is currently crawling up a storm and getting into everything in sight).

Much like checking in with your BFF to get caught up on the latest in her life, my hope is that this blog will become a regular destination for mamas-in-the-making to find out the must-know pregnancy news of the moment. I want to hear your feedback too, so please keep me posted when I do something you like, or when I miss the mark. The important thing is to get a dialogue going, and to have a lot of fun along the way. I hope to hear from you soon! xoxo —Patty
