Kelly Clarkson has finally confirmed what we’ve all been waiting for via Twitter: “I’m pregnant!!! Brandon and I are so excited! Best early Christmas present ever.” A big congrats to my all-time favorite American Idol!
Believe it or not: Kelly says she never wanted to be a mom. But all that changed when she met the love of her life, Brandon Blackstock (who has two kids from a previous relationship). While everyone presumed Kelly’s recent slim down was to look good in her wedding pictures, Kelly told Taste of Country it was actually baby-making prep. “It’s all about making my body the most healthy inside out. And I’m reading all these books,” she said.
Ever since she and Brandon got married a month ago in Tennessee, having a baby is pretty much all the singer has talked about! “I want babies!” the newlywed declared in a radio interview on Oct. 30. ”Everybody keeps saying, ‘What do you want for Christmas?’ And I’m like, ‘I want to be pregnant.’”
She continued the baby talk on Jay Leno on Nov. 11. Though Jay pressed her on whether she was pregnant, Kelly wasn’t ready to make her big announcement—only telling the talk show host, “[We want a baby] like now! Practice makes perfect! We’re trying, trying, trying. I never wanted kids before, but now I want, like, five.”
I’m so happy for Kelly, and I love that she told her devoted fans first! She is the most down-to-earth celebrity, and is going to be the cutest pregnant woman ever. You know she’s going to have one rockin’ baby shower too! I can’t wait for more details!

Who doesn’t love a baby shower? Girl talk, cute gifts, tasty bites, fun games, and you are—or someone you love is—about to have a cutie patootie! Jennifer Love Hewitt’s friends and family feted her with a super-chic baby shower this weekend at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles. Since she and her fiancé (also one of her co-stars on The Client List), Brian Hallisay, want to be surprised by the baby’s sex, and will be waiting till the birth to find out whether they’re the proud parents of a boy or girl, it was a gender-neutral shower.
Celebrity party planner to the stars, Mindy Weiss, designed the buzz-worthy color scheme of black, yellow and white, and JLH—who is due in December—was positively glowing in a matching yellow strapless maxi. Here are three important lessons you can steal from her big day for your or a friend’s shower.
• Make your décor do double duty. Jennifer’s shower had a cute clothesline of onesies as part of the shower’s décor (The shower for Glee’s Heather Morris did something similar with a onesie decorating station, where the finished products were hung on a clothesline). You could also fill up baby bottles with various candies at a candy bar that the mom can use once the baby is born. That way you’re not spending money on pricy decorative items that will just go in the trash after the party.
• You don’t have to have chi-chi h’ors deuvres to impress the guests—everyone loves comfort food. Jennifer’s shower served the mama-to-be’s favorite bites like bruschetta, mini pizzas, and custom baby-faced cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes (Jennifer recently admitted cupcakes have been her biggest craving!).
• Favors should have a personal touch. Jennifer’s guests created their own fragrance at a scent bar (what a fun idea, right?), then on their way out they were given chocolate chip cookies in black-and-white striped bags (to match the color theme) with bottles of milk. What a sweet prezzie—literally!

May the force be with Hart of Dixie star Jaime King when she goes into labor this fall! The pregnant actress and George Lucas fanatic, was feted by friends (including super-stylish celeb pals Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson and Selma Blair) at her Star Wars-themed baby shower on Saturday at the Soho House in West Hollywood.
The centerpiece of the baby shower was an elaborate cake featuring Jaime as Princess Leah, and her husband Kyle in full Jedi gear, surrounded by Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, and their baby on a planet (most likely in a galaxy far, far away). Since the couple doesn’t know the sex of their baby—and plan to be surprised on his or her birthday—the cake read: “May the force be with baby Newman.”
Why the Sci-fi theme? The space adventure holds a special place in Jaime and her husband’s hearts. Aside from both of them being obsessed with all things Star Wars, Kyle directed Jaime in the 2009 movie Fanboys—about buddies who take a cross-country trip to Skywalker Ranch so their dying friend can see a screening of Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace before its released—and Jaime voiced several characters on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated TV series from 2009 to 2012.
While I’m not as R2D2- and C3P0-obsessed as Jaime and Kyle, I love that they (and her friends throwing the shower) went outside the box with the baby shower theme. It’s a tip for everyone to learn from. Your (or your friend’s shower) should focus on the mom-to-be’s likes and interests and really be personal to her. Love books? A nursery rhyme, Alice in Wonderland, or Dr. Seuss-themed party is perfect. Can’t get enough of animals? A circus, jungle or petting zoo-themed shower could be for you. Have a special interest, like football, music or even knitting? They can all be incorporated into a baby shower tailored just for you, making your day extra-special.
For your own Star Wars-themed baby bash, check out these awesome recipes and craft projects. You can even take your love of the movies one step further by naming your baby after the epic series with these cool baby name suggestions. Star Wars not your bag? Get inspired by these other fun baby shower themes.

Baby Showers, Who Is Pregnant

Who here loves a baby shower? Who here’s looking forward to her own baby shower? If you fall into either camp, read on for the most heartfelt baby shower activity (at least according to me!).
I admit I’m a sentimental softie and that’s why I love it when baby showers incorporate personal touches. So I was really excited to see that Heather Morris’ friends designed onesies for the Glee star’s upcoming bundle of joy during her summer shower.
It lets your pals get creative and you and your little one get a one-of-a-kind gift. When Heather’s friends were done designing their mini masterpieces, they were hung from a clothing line by cute clothespins, adding to the party’s decor (gossipy sidenote: since there are blue, pink and yellow clothespins, I’m guessing Heather’s waiting till she gives birth to find out the sex of her baby!).
For my shower, my friends did something similar, and everyone designed bibs using waterproof markers, so they’re safe to wash without erasing the doodles. I received tons of amazing gifts at my baby shower, but the handmade bibs are what I will forever cherish (scroll down to see some of them).
I highly recommend adding a creative baby shower activity to your day, or urging a friend to get one going for you. Other great ideas include making decorations for the nursery together in whatever color or theme you’ve selected (this could be customized picture frames, wall hangings, or pillows), each guest writing a hand-written note to the baby on what the baby means to them and what they hope s/he will achieve in life, and for super-crafty types knitting a small square of fabric that can be put together to make a customized blankie for the baby. The possibilities are endless!
Here are some of my favorite bib designs from my shower:

Kate Levering plays the tough-as-nails, succeed-at-all-costs attorney Kim Kaswell on Drop Dead Diva, who found out at the end of last season that she’s—gasp!—pregnant. While Kim is always impeccably dressed, she’s not always the nicest. So I was relieved to find that Kate is the exact opposite of her TV alter ego. Though equally ambitious, Kate’s not at all bitchy—even when she’s allowed to be, because she’s just weeks away from giving birth (she’s due in August) and she’s filming in Hotlanta. In summertime, people!
More like a chatty best friend than someone on a hit TV show, Kate was happy to talk about all things pregnancy—including the fact that she’s due with a boy, had a fun “safari chic” baby shower, and is now in full-on nesting mode, but can’t do much about it because she’s filming in Atlanta, while her husband, Reza, and unfinished nursery are in LA!
Read on to find out how Kate’s off-screen pregnancy has influenced her on-screen one, what she thinks of everyone bashing former guest star Kim Kardashian for her pregnancy weight gain, and why she’s warding off an epidural. Yes, really!
Is it true your character, Kim, got pregnant before you did?
Yes! It’s life imitating art, but I like to say I’m just that good of an actress that the writers wrote it, and I made it happen in real life!
So you didn’t have to wear a fake belly like most actresses playing a pregnant woman?
No, in fact because our filming schedule was pushed back from February to May, I showed up way more pregnant than my character was supposed to be so I spent the first few episodes holding a lot of folders in front of my belly and sitting behind desks. I even had one emotional scene where I just sort of hugged a pillow the whole time. We had to get creative!
How is Kim pregnant: extra bitchy or has pregnancy softened her?
A little bit of both. She’s really been thrown a curve ball and she’s in denial that she’s pregnant. She’s such a workaholic and she’s not very maternal, and at times we see her about to crack, which is nice because we’ve never seen that side of her character before. So there is some vulnerability revealed as well as she gets extra bitchy to people. It’s kind of like a regular pregnancy, where you’re just all over the place!
Did being pregnant make it easy playing a future mom?
Yes, I didn’t have to try hard because I already had the waddle down and was subconsciously rubbing my belly, so it was perfect.
How has it been working such long days when being pregnant is already exhausting?
Well, I’m only doing eight episodes instead of the full 13, and the crew has tried really hard to keep me hydrated, make sure I’m not on my feet too much, or wearing heels for too long. Someone is always right there with a chair in between takes. So I can’t complain. I’ve actually had a really enjoyable, carefree pregnancy. I keep joking with my friends that I should have been way more high maintenance because now my husband thinks being pregnant is a breeze. I should have milked it!
Women take to pregnancy differently. Some feel confident and feminine. Others can’t help being self-conscious and moody thanks to the hormones. How have you been so far?
Watching my body change has made me feel the most feminine, confident and sexy I’ve ever felt. Although, now I’m getting down to the end where you can’t tie your shoes or shave your bikini line so then you start to feel not-so-sexy. But I’ve loved being pregnant. Now I’m worried that I’m going to become one of those women who’s always knocked up!
So much has been made about pregnant women in the news: Kim Kardashian was criticized for “getting too heavy,” Kate Middleton was said to be “too small.” What do you make of all the talk?
I think it’s really sad that women are being made to feel bad during what should be the most special time in their lives. I worked with Kim Kardashian on the show and she is the tiniest thing with these great curves. She didn’t look anything like Kate Middleton to begin with, so why should their pregnancies be compared? When you’re pregnant, you have no control over what happens to your body and where the weight goes, so why make women feel bad about themselves? I think that’s awful. Pregnancy should be celebrated!
What’s been the best part of expecting?
Feeling my baby kick for the first time was the most incredible emotion I’ve ever felt. Even feeling my baby kick now—all the time—that excitement never goes away.
What’s been the most surprising?
That people aren’t more willing to help you when they see that you’re pregnant. I was flying and my belly was huge, but no one offered to put my carry-on in the overhead compartment. So next time you see a pregnant woman, if you’re not pregnant yourself, offer to help her!
Now for the big question: Epidural or no epidural?
I probably shouldn’t say this in case it doesn’t go as planned, but I’m not planning on having an epidural. I have a midwife, and I’ve read Ina May’s Guide to Natural Childbirth. I think our culture has scared women to death when it comes to childbirth, which is something so natural and beautiful that we shouldn’t be frightened of it. But talk to me after I give birth!
Tune in Sunday, 6/23, to see Kate in all her pregnant glory (no stunt belly required!) for the fifth season premiere of Drop Dead Diva at 9 pm ET on Lifetime.
