It’s October 31st and that means just one thing, and one thing only in the minds of kids ages 3 and up all around the country—HALLOWEEN! The day has arrived and I think this year, I’m as excited as I was when I was a child. My son Oliver is 3 and this is the first year that he’s really grasped the concept of the holiday. But with understanding of the holiday also comes costume requests, so for my son, I’ve lost all creative control over his get-up. This year, he’s a fire fighter which is completely legit and still opens up some room for some crafting on my end. (Follow me on Instagram to see how it turns out! @amanda_mommy) Here is a little trip down memory lane of the last few years of costumes in my household.
Last year my daughter was a mere 6 months old, so of course I could mold her into whatever I wanted her to be. I had never seen a vintage synchronized swimmer costume before, so it was a fun challenge to figure out how to make one. Hop over to Project Kid to see how I did it. (Ps…isn’t she the cutest?) This year, she’s going as Jennifer Beale from Flashdance. We’ve been practicing by dancing to Maniac for weeks now!
My son was born at the end of August of 2010, about 6 weeks early, so by Halloween, he still looked like a newborn (and a little bit like a frog, thus, this costume). His pacifier was very important to him, so we attached his red froggy felt tongue to it. He got much attention strolling around in his bassinet.
The next year, he was up and at ‘em running like the little toddler that he had become. So I designed another approrpiate costume for that phase of life…a marathon runner! This photo (shot by my friend and photog extraordinaire Jami Saunders) appeared in a Parents feature last year.
Have a safe and beyond fun Halloween, everyone!Add a Comment
