It’s a Second Girl for Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard!

Monday, December 22nd, 2014

Kristen Bell and Dax ShepardFollowing in Kourtney Kardashian’s footsteps, Kristen Bell gave birth right before Christmas to her second daughter, named Delta, reports People. Delta is the second child for the “Veronica Mars” and “Frozen” actress and her husband, “Parenthood” actor Dax Shepard. They also have a 2-year-old daughter named Lincoln.

Both couples took to Twitter (and Instagram) to announce their baby’s arrival, with Kristen posting an image of  a mama gorilla holding a baby gorilla’s hand.

It’s unlikely the couple will share a photo of their baby anytime soon, as they’re private about photos of Lincoln. Along with other celebs, Bell and Shepard are also big supporters of the No Kids Policy, an initiative to stop paparazzi from taking photos of celebrity kids without their parents’ consent.

In an interview with Redbook last year, Bell shared her experience of being a first-time mom to Lincoln. “I guess this is the first year I’ve really owned the title of ‘grown-up,’ although I don’t feel like one. I think the biggest change for me is that somehow I feel more whole … The consensus from everyone is that [having a kid is] the best thing you will ever do in your life. Dax and I put a lot of stock in that, and they were right.”

Congratulations to the second-time parents!

Celebrity Baby News: Lil Kim Has a Baby…

Monday, June 9th, 2014

It’s a girl for rapper Lil Kim, 39, who became a first-time mom at 9:58 this morning in New Jersey.

And Lil Kim gave her daughter a name that seems a bit more fitting for a child of Prince—Royal Reign. (You can get the full scoop on her name selection at our baby name blog, In Name Only.)

While some celebrities lately have talked about scaling back their careers in the wake of parenthood (including movie stars Kristen Bell and Channing Tatum) Lil Kim told Us Magazine recently that she had no plans to scale back on her music career after her baby arrives. “I’m still going to work. I’m still going to be hardcore,” she said. “The baby has made me even more of a beast!”

Congrats to the brand new mommy and her daughter!

Kristen Bell Shares Baby Lincoln’s Cuteness

Monday, April 21st, 2014

Kristen Bell is always good for a funny story or two when she shows up on Ellen. (She’s a family favorite in my house—I loved her on Veronica Mars and House of Lies, and my daughters, naturally, ADORE Frozen.)

And now that her baby daughter Lincoln, with husband Dax Shepard, has turned one, Kristen has some pretty funny stories to tell—like that one of her daughter’s first three words is “boobies.” (BTW, way to go, Kristen, for continuing to breastfeed at age 1!) And Kristen’s hysterical reenactments of her daughter’s dance moves are well worth taking the few minutes to check out. (Who knew there was a dance move called the “New Jersey Turnpike?”)

It’s clear that Kristen is loving that one-year-old period with Lincoln as much as we did with our daughters. (And in fact, she’s even said she plans to step back a bit from her career to spend more time with her daughter.) Kids do so many amazing things around that time period—first words, first dances, and all kinds of adorableness. I remember when we fed my oldest daughter, Katie, ice cream, and she was so hopped up on it that she tried to play with a baby piano and a playhouse simultaneously. And my youngest daughter, Maggie, used to giggle and try to charm her way out of bedtime every night. (Though that’s a behavior that continues even though she’s now seven!)

Tell us: What are some of the cutest things your one-year-old did? Share your stories!

Kristen Bell’s Scaling Back on Her Career—Should You?

Monday, April 7th, 2014

Actress Kristen Bell is red-hot right now, thanks to her role as Anna in Frozen, and as the titular private eye in the recent movie reboot of Veronica Mars. (Not to mention playing hard-charging consultant Jeannie in House of Lies.)

But she recently told Us Weekly that she’s planning to scale back right now to spend more time with her baby daughter, Lincoln. “I want to be very hands on,” she says. “I want to cook for my family and feel present for them. I’m always missing her when I’m not there.”

And that seems to fit with the current trend amongst both A-list moms (Gwyneth Paltrow recently made headlines by proclaiming her need to take more time off with her kids—and angering more than a few working moms in the process), and amongst many regular moms-to-be. In fact, a recent report showed that nearly 60 percent of Millennial moms (those born between 1981 and 2000) believe a parent should stay home with their kids—compare that to the Gen X parents (the era I fall into), where only half of moms polled believe a parent should stay home with the kiddos.

It can be a really tough decision—and one that may take you by surprise. I had a pretty dreamy job right before I had my kids, and I expected to go right back to my same career path. But the reality of missing bedtimes for deadlines and of spending more time commuting than I spent with my kids hit hard—and I scaled back to something that was more flexible and let me work from home. I was lucky that I had that option—and a supportive spouse who let me try out freelancing, even though there was no guarantee that I would make enough to keep our household afloat. (Fortunately, the gamble paid off.)

While I know I made the right choice for my family, I often wonder what I’d be doing if I stuck it out—perhaps editor in chief of a magazine I love?

So tell me: How did having kids impact your career? And did you make a choice that you didn’t expect, once your baby arrived?

Are you ready for another child?
