Big Decision

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

Our family went to a local restaurant for dinner. There was a new option for the kids to choose a side dish with their entrée. My oldest child chose fries and my middle child chose applesauce. Then the waitress asked my younger son, “Which side do you want?” He gave her a confused look and answered, “I don’t really care. How about the left? You can put my chicken on the left.”

Silly Spoons

Friday, February 21st, 2014

Here’s a recent conversation with my son:

Lex: I need a spoon!

Me: I told you that you could get one.

Lex: But I’m busy.

Me: Doing what?

Lex: Waiting for a spoon!

Not-So-Super Appetite

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014

My son has always been a picky eater. After months of struggling to negotiate with him at meals, I said, “Honey, do you think Spider-Man’s mom has to beg him to eat every night?” He responded, “Mom, I seriously doubt Spider-Man still lives with his mommy!”

Sticky Fingers

Monday, September 30th, 2013

boy with dirty fingersMy son had just finished eating when I noticed that his hands were miraculously clean. I asked him if he wiped his fingers on his pajamas instead of the napkin. He replied, “No, I wiped them on the chair.”

Drink Up

Monday, September 30th, 2013

girl drinking sodaI try to encourage health eating habits in my home. Keeping soda out of the house and replacing it with juice is one way I achieve this. One afternoon, I entered my living room and found my daughter drinking a glass of soda. When I asked what she was doing, she replied, “I’m drinking Daddy’s milk.”
