HiB Vaccines Recalled

Merck & Co., Inc. has recalled about 1 million doses of its HiB (Haemophilus influenzae type B) vaccines because they may not have been sterilized properly. (However, no germs have been discovered in the vaccines themselves.) The vaccines have been distributed since April 2007, but according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, no side effects or infections have been found in children so far.

The vaccine, which protects against a bacterium (HiB) that can cause serious infections such as meningitis and pneumonia, is given to babies in two or three doses between 2 and 15 months. If your child has been vaccinated in the past week, watch the injection site for redness or bumps and call the pediatrician immediately if you have any concerns. 2,000 Stokke Strollers Recalled Due to Front Wheel Detachment

260,000 Children's Potty Training & Feeding Seats Recalled Due to Fall Hazards & Lead

RC2 Corp. has recalled about 160,000 First Years 3-in-1 Flush and Sounds Potty Seats (sold from April 2006 through August 2007) because paint on the back of the seats had excessive levels of lead. Stop using the seat or contact RC2 for a free protective plastic cover to reduce your childs exposure to the paint.

The company also recalled about 100,000 First Years Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seats (sold from November 2006 through October 2007) because the restraining straps can come loose, posing a falling risk to babies and toddlers. Stop using the seat or contact RC2 for free replacement straps.

Sears Recalls 11,300 Girls' Sweaters and Children's Pants Due to Strangulation & Entrapment Hazards

Sears has recalled about 6,100 TKS-brand children's pants (sold from July 2007 to August 2007) because the ribbon belts exceed the length in safety guidelines, which poses an entrapment or entanglement risk. The company also recalled about 5,200 Personal Identity-brand V-neck sweaters (sold during September 2007) because the drawstrings on the hoods may be a choking hazard. Kmart Recalls 13,000 Girls' Clothing Sets Due to Entrapment Hazard
