A Girlie Garden Nursery

Look closely at this nursery and you'll see a strong hue and even stronger style in the garden of details.

  • A Colorful Retreat

This nursery's soft pink, touches of green, and petal-like ruffles recall a fresh English garden. The room's hues -- Charming Pink (SW 6309), Melange Green (SW 6710), and Inkwell (SW 6992), all by Sherwin-Williams -- seem to whisper "girlie" and create a sweet retreat for Mom and baby alike.

  • Classic & Comfy

Interior designer Krista Bridges Burruss followed suit when she loosely themed this nursery, created for the Atlanta Street of Dreams show house, around the popular English novel The Secret Garden. "I knew the room should have the feel of a childhood classic," Burruss says. "I tried to incorporate an English garden feel into the room without having a garden theme."

  • Stripes, Dots, Florals

King-size sheets contributed the playful floral fabric that inspired the striking main palette of pink, black, and white (green takes on a supporting role). "I tend to like three-color room schemes," Burruss says, and the black-and-white combination adds freshness and sophistication to the feminine space. She then mixed dots and stripes with the centerpiece floral pattern.

  • Custom Crib Bedding

The king-size sheets were used to fashion the window valance, the side table scarf, and even the crib bedding, shown here. (You, too, can accomplish this unified look. When you see a set of linens you love on sale, snatch up two or three sets: They can be cheaper than fabric in fabric stores.)

  • Details Straight Up to the Ceiling

Burruss enlisted a decorative painter to create delicate curlicues reminiscent of those on the fabric to accent the tray ceiling.

  • A Secret Stenciled Garden

Topiaries painted on either side of the window seat add to the luxurious feel of an English estate and garden.

  • A Well-Dressed Sleep Spot

Pale pink bunny finials top the crib's scallop-edge headboard and footboard, and a lengthy crib skirt flows to the floor, adding a decidedly feminine touch.

  • A Personalized Touch

This custom wall-hanging ties together all the room's colors and elements -- retro dots, delicate flowers, bold contrasts -- in a piece of art that can grow with baby.

  • Changing Views

Here's a fun idea: Hang a mobile above a changing table to occupy little ones while they have their diapers changed. If it matches the room's decor, even better.

  • Simple Stripes

Bold stripes add drama to the small armoire. You can stripe your own dresser or armoire by removing all knobs and painting it white, then using tape to section off evenly spaced columns. Fill in the stripes with a glossy latex paint, then re-affix nobs.

  • All in the Details

A few well-chosen accessories round out the sweet space. "Look everywhere for elements and accessories -- antiques shows, department stores, discount stores, anywhere," Burruss says. "I think it makes a room more special when it comes together with a little bit of hunting."
