Q: I had a C-section a year ago and want to firm up my stomach again. Do you suggest abdominal crunches? Is that the only way?
A: My sister recently had a C-section as well and I know it took her a while to get in touch with those muscles again. I would start slowly with a basic crunch. Be sure to support your head and neck with clasped fingers and avoid tugging on your neck. You can also work the sides of your waist and stomach by crunching and subtly twisting your torso toward your left knee and then toward your right knee. Think of bringing your right shoulder, not your elbow, toward your left knee. Focus out and above your knees -- almost toward the ceiling. Try one to three sets of 10 to 15 repetitions.
