Checklist: Baby Basics Shopping List

Shopping for your newborn can be a daunting task, especially since there's such a huge variety of baby products on the market. How many undershirts, sleepers, bottles and burping cloths does your little one need? Which lotions and creams should you stock up on? What should you carry in your diaper bag? Our baby basics shopping list will help you figure out exactly what you'll need for the first few months. Print it up and take it with you on your next trip to the mall.

Clothes

5 undershirts or onesies

2 blanket sleepers (for winter babies)

3 pairs of socks or booties

5 pajama stretchsuits

1-2 dress-up outfits

1 Hat

1 sweater

Bedding

Bassinet or crib

Baby mattress

4 fitted sheets

Breast-feeding

3 nursing bras

Pillow to support your baby

Breast pump

1 box of breast pads

Nipple cream (lanolin-based is best)

Loose shirts or button-downs for you (easier for nursing)

Changing

Diapers

Baby lotion

Baby wipes

Diaper rash ointments

Toys to distract her

Changing mat

Tissues

Dirty-diaper bin or bucket

Diaper Bag/Backpack

4-6 diapers (depending on length of outing)

1 bib

1 toy

Travel-size tissues

Baby wipes

Baby lotion

Extra outfit

Plastic bag for dirty diapers

Bottled water and snack for you

This is a poor list. What if you're not breast feeding? You've got to have a car seat to get your baby home from the hospital unless you're walking. What about mattress pads? A stroller is a necessity for most people, too. I think this list is for the minimalist who never leaves the house. If you do, you will want to add a diaper bag to the list.

well it depends on if you going straight home or some kind of outting. One thing is for sure, extra diapers, wipes, change of clothes (just in case), burp up clothes, and formula.
