Surname taken from the shallow body of water where it's possible to cross by wading. In Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel, "Gone with the Wind," Wade Hampton Hamilton was the son of Scarlet O'Hara and Charles Hamilton. He was named after his father's commanding officer, which was customary at the time. Listed among the top 500 names until 2001.
