A variation of Silvia which is the feminine form of Silvius. Rhea Silvia was the mother of Romulus and Remus in Roman mythology and Saint Silvia was the mother of Pope Gregory I. Shakespeare used the name for a character in his comedy, "The Two Gentlemen of Verona."Today its known for Queen Silvia of Sweden who is the consort of King Carl XVI Gustaf and mother of the heir apparent to the throne.
