Possibly derived from the Latin "orabilis" or a variation of Annabelle. The name of a character in Charles Dickens' first novel, "The Pickwick Papers" and an opera by German composer Richard Strauss that was first performed in 1933. Considered an upper class name, it was used sporadically during the late 19th century and made a sudden reappearance on the popularity chart in 2005 following a recent trend of names that end in "ella."
