Variation of Annabel ultimately derived from Amabel, derived from the Latin word, amabilis. A combination name, blending Anna and Belle, that was common in the 19th century because of "Annabelle Lee," a famous 1849 poem by Edgar Allan Poe. After fading in 1951, it returned to popularity in 1995 and continued to rise partly because of character Annabelle Farrell played by actress Brooke Langton in the 2000 film, "The Replacements."
