Taken from the River Severn located in Wales, that was originally called Habren. In Celtic legend, Sabrina was a princess who drowned in the Severn. The name first appeared on the chart in 1954 influenced by the 154 film of the same name starring Audrey Hepburn in the title role. The name peaked in 1997 because of the popular 1996 to 2003 television series, "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," starring actress Melissa Joan Hart. A fashionable girls name favored by parents because of its popular long "ee" sound, "y" and "z" spelling variations and its "a" ending.
