Latin form of Selene that is most noted for the famous Mexican American singer who was called "the queen of Tejano music" during the late 1980s and 1990s and whose fame continued long after her untimely death in 1995. Her Grammy Award-winning album, "Selena Live!" was released in 1993, just shortly before the name hit top rankings on the popularity chart. Also inspired by the 1997 movie, "Selena," starring actress and singer Jennifer Lopez in the title role. Trendy name among parents because of its popular "a" ending and use of the long "ee" sound.
