The Italian and Spanish form of Theresa that's widely used by Roman Catholics in honor of Saint Teresa of Avila, a 16th century Spanish nun. Nobel Peace Prize recipient Mother Teresa chose the name in her honor when she took her vows as a nun in 1931. Theresa was the most widely used form until 1960.
