Where They Find Inspiration

In the September 2006 issue of American Baby magazine, we asked you which celebrity named his or her baby after popular clothing. Toni Braxton, not Russell Crowe, Matt Damon, or Mariska Hargitay, chose a fashionable name for her bundle of joy.

All in the 'Jeans'

R&B singer Toni Michelle Braxton, who is distinctive for her low vocal register, gave birth to a son, Denim Cole Braxton-Lewis, on December 2, 2001. She and her husband, musician Keri Lewis, have another son, Diezel Ky Braxton-Lewis, born on March 31, 2003. Braxton has released five albums, including: Toni Braxton; Secrets; The Heat; More Than a Woman; and Libra. In addition to her singing career, which has earned her many awards, including five Grammy awards, Braxton has appeared on Broadway as Belle in Beauty and the Beast and as Aida in Disney's Aida.

Classical Monikers

Russell Ira Crowe, recently seen in Cinderella Man as boxer James Braddock, has two children, Charles Spencer Crowe, born December 21, 2003, and Tennyson Spencer Crowe, born July 7, 2006, with his wife, Australian singer and actress Danielle Spencer. Crowe's other notable roles include Dr. Jeffrey Wigand in The Insider; Maximus in Gladiator (which earned him the Best Actor Academy Award in 2001); and John Nash in A Beautiful Mind. Outside of his acting career, Crowe is part owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs National Rugby League, and is the front man in his new band, The Ordinary Fear of God.

Latin Beauty

Actor and screenwriter, Matthew Paige Damon, welcomed daughter Isabella on June 11, 2006, with wife Luciana Bozan Barroso, who also has another daughter, Alexia, from a previous marriage. Damon's first role was in the romantic comedy Mystic Pizza. He was most recently seen in Syriana opposite his Ocean's Eleven costar George Clooney. Damon is most famous for his role as Will Hunting in Good Will Hunting, which earned him the Best Actor Academy Award, in addition to the Best Screenwriter award alongside his best friend and fellow actor, Ben Affleck. Other notable roles include Jason Bourne in the Bourne Identity series; Tom Ripley in The Talented Mr. Ripley; and as Private James Ryan in Saving Private Ryan.

Monthly Special

Mariska Magdolina Hargitay, daughter of legendary screen actress Jayne Mansfield and former Mr. Universe Mickey Hargitay, welcomed a son, August Miklos Friedrich Hermann, on June 28, 2006, with actor husband Peter Hermann. Hargitay is best known for her role as Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victim's Unit, which earned her the 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. In addition to her acting career, Hargitay cofounded an organization called the Joyful Heart Foundation to help women who have been sexually assaulted.
