A biblical name mentioned in the New Testament for a deacon of the church at Cenchreae. In Greek mythology, Phoibe's daughter Leto was the mother of Apollo and Artemis. Also used by William Shakespeare for Phebe, a shepherdess in his play, "As You Like it." The name became known to millions of fans of the television series, "Friends" for fictional character, Phoebe Buffay.
