The short French form of Katherine taken from the Greek Aikaterine. It was a top 100 name in the 1880s, that is making a comeback in popularity partly because of well-known actress and daughter of Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson whose breakthrough role was in the 2000 film "Almost Famous." It has also been shaped by "Kate Austen," leading female and fictional character in the television series "Lost" since its pilot aired in 2004, as well as by Kate Bosworth and her performance as "Lois Lane" in the 2006 movie, "Superman Returns." Trendy when combined with other names such as Katelee and Katelynn.
